Reggie's Road 2 Recovery

Donation protected
In November 2015, Freehold Borough Fire Fighter Reggie Sims became sick with what he thought was bronchitis or pneumonia.  The weeks progressed and so did his illness.  After several visits to multiple hospitals, he was diagnosed with something much more serious.  B.O.O.P., which stands for Bronchiolitis Obliterans Organizing Pneumonia.  This decease compromises the bronchioles and surrounding tissue in the lungs.  Reggie suffered an allergic reaction to an antibiotic and the illness progressed. The only hope for recovery was a double lung transplant.
After being transferred to the University of Penn in Philadelphia, Reggie was fortunate enough to be matched with a donor.  The double lung transplant was completed June 9, 2016 with success, but that is just the first step of Reggie’s recovery.  He was recently released from a rehabilitation facility where he spent nearly 8 weeks and has to return to Philadelphia several times per week for months of therapy.  He will need to take anti-rejection drugs and other medication for the rest of his life.  There are many expenses incurred with a procedure such as this, that are not covered by insurance.  Reggie has not been able to work since January 2016.
Reggie has always been an athlete and in good health.  He was a football and baseball star at Freehold High School.  After high school he played football for Ashland University in Ohio and took his team to three conferences.  He returned to NJ; coached baseball and football at Freehold Township High School before moving to Rutgers University where he was Assistant Athletic Director for Football Operations.  Reggie is currently employed by the Borough of Freehold.

Reggie’s mom, Eva Sims, taught him to be an integral part of his community.  She taught him well because he has volunteered in the Freehold Borough Community for many years.  He has been a member of the Freehold Borough Fire Department for over 25 years and serves on the Housing Authority.  He has volunteered for the YMCA, Freehold Little League, Recreation Commission and Colonial Basketball League.  The job Reggie enjoys the most is being a father to his four daughters; Chamara, Cydney, Cierra and Camryn.  With your help, we can help Reggie recover from his life saving procedure and get him back to the people and community he cares so much about.

Reggie’s Road 2 Recovery Committee; comprised of friends, family, members of the Freehold Borough Fire Department and Latino Coalition, is raising money to help offset his medical expenses.  Please give to this Freehold son who has always given himself to the Freehold Community!
