May 2023: We built Puppyland. An empty terrain has been transformed into a great shelter, where the dogs have a lot of space. The dogs can move to their new shelter! The next step is now the further renovation of the house and the shelter for the dogs with special needs.

April 2023: We have arranged the paperwork surrounding the purchase of a piece of land plus a house. We can now start building the shelter and renovating the house.

December 2022: After probably visiting a lot of terrains and getting a lot of tips from our followers, we have found suitable land and are going to buy it! The plot meets our conditions: no local residents in the immediate area, good accessibility for our volunteers, enough space for the dogs, a ruin that we can build into a house and electricity and water can be connected.

September 2022: Start fundraising for a new Villa GaGa. Our puppies and dogs with special needs have to move and Gerbien, our founder, moves with them.

We have to move because of an unsustainable situation with a hotel right next to our shelter, which will be fully exploited in the early years.

Our story:

GaGa Animal Care is facing a big problem. Part of our current stray dog shelter is located in a populated area. Because of the increasing number of dogs under our care, surrounding residents and hotels have to deal with increasing nuisance. We have to move from this location. To prevent a shutdown at any moment by our municipality, GaGa Animal Care has to buy a new land for our puppies, special needs dogs and Gerbien (the founder) herself.

Luckily, we found a beautiful, quiet, remote piece of land with a small (to be renovated) house. This land will allow us a place for more dogs, better care, opportunities and space for rehabilitation, quarantine and neutering programs, as well as emergency care.

Why this & why now?

If Villa GaGa does not move as soon as possible, our shelter will fill up even more, causing increased noise disturbance for our surroundings and therefore bigger risk of swift shutdown. Businesses, such as hotels, in the neighborhood are (understandably) unhappy with the noise disturbance, and problems will only worsen. Short-term relocation is necessary. We must have realized a new shelter before the summer season of 2023.

Buying a new piece of land with a house is very expensive. Since GaGa is a non-profit organization, it relies on donations, which are used for our daily costs to run the shelter.

For the last two decades, we have succeeded in caring for and rehoming thousands of dogs. It is what we live for and what we want to continue doing. Please help us to continue our important work of making and keeping stray dogs safe and happy. On average, about 250 dogs are adopted and moved to their new homes in the Netherlands annually.

What are the estimated costs?

We have made a budget of 55.000 euros.

With this amount, we want to achieve the following:

• The purchase of a new land with a small house on it.

• Making the land suitable for the shelter of our dogs, which means that enclosures are built, and it is fenced.

• Renovating the small house, to make it livable for Gerbien and other permanent volunteers.

• Realizing an access road and connecting electricity and water.

• In addition, we want to realize a basic operating room for our neutering programs and emergency care.

We have found a land that meets our conditions and would be suitable for the dogs. It is located in a quiet area, without neighbors close by. It would be our dream to buy this land.

About the goal amount

The goal of the fundraiser is based on a solid estimate. We will soon know the actual costs involved in this project. These may deviate from the estimated amount. At that time, if necessary, we will adjust the target amount accordingly, but we expect this is an adjustment of less than 10% of our current target. We will inform you about our progress.

In 2018, we held a large fundraising campaign for the relocation of our adult dogs, raising approximately 30,000 euros to realize Camp GaGa in 2019. The reason was the same - the location at the time was close to houses and caused disturbance and complaints.

In this location of our shelter, Camp GaGa, we take care of an average of 40 dogs at a time. We manage and run this shelter ourselves.

And now STAGE 2 – a new shelter for our puppies and special needs dogs

Now that our adults are in a good place, we are entering the second fundraising stage: the relocation of Villa GaGa. Villa GaGa, home of our puppies and special needs dogs, as well as of Gerbien, our founder, has to move. At Villa GaGa, we also care for approximately 40 dogs at a time.

Two decades of commitment to Animal Welfare at Lesbos and The Netherlands

GaGa Animal Care has been committed to improving the lives of stray animals on Lesvos for more than 20 years. As a result, there are no more stray dogs in the area of (Skala) Eressos, and cats are healthy and well cared for.

We reach our goals by:

GaGa Animal Care on Lesvos was started and managed by Gerbien Fricke, a woman of Dutch origin. Over the past two decades, Gerbien has given her all to the animals and has saved many lives.

Eresos is known for its excellent animal care, with no stray animals and all stray cats well cared for. With our continued commitment, GaGa Animal Care has grown to be a bigger and better organization, with many volunteers all working towards the common goal of providing dogs with the best care and, eventually, a great family and forever home. As Gerbien always says: we will do everything we can to keep them safe and happy.

The volunteers, both on Lesvos and in the Netherlands, jointly carry out all tasks related to the dogs and the shelter. The work concerns two daily shifts for feeding and taking care of the dogs, walking dogs and providing essential training, taking dogs to the vet and airport, home visits for (re)homing dogs and taking care of marketing and fundraising campaigns.

Villa GaGa - de thuisbasis van onze puppy's en "special needs" honden - moet verhuizen!

GaGa Animal Care staat voor een groot probleem. Een deel van onze huidige zwerfhondenopvang bevindt zich in een dichtbevolkt gebied. Door het toenemend aantal honden onder onze hoede, krijgen omwonenden en hotels te maken met toenemende overlast. Onze opvang moet verhuizen. Om te voorkomen dat onze gemeente op enig moment tot sluiting overgaat, moet GaGa Animal Care een nieuw stuk land kopen voor onze pups, "special needs" honden en Gerbien (de oprichtster) zelf.

Gelukkig hebben we een mooi, rustig, afgelegen stuk land gevonden met een klein (te renoveren) huisje. Dit land zal ons een plek geven voor meer honden, betere zorg, mogelijkheden en ruimte voor revalidatie, quarantaine en castratie programma's, alsmede noodopvang.

Waarom dit & waarom nu?

Als Villa GaGa niet zo snel mogelijk verhuist, zal onze opvang nog voller raken, met als gevolg meer geluidsoverlast voor onze omgeving en dus een groter risico op snelle sluiting. Bedrijven, zoals hotels, in de buurt zijn (begrijpelijk) ongelukkig met de geluidsoverlast, en de problemen zullen alleen maar verergeren. Verplaatsing op korte termijn is noodzakelijk. Voor het zomerseizoen van 2023 moet er een nieuw onderkomen zijn gerealiseerd.

Het kopen van een nieuw stuk grond met een huis is erg duur. Aangezien GaGa een non-profit organisatie is, is het afhankelijk van donaties, die al worden gebruikt voor onze dagelijkse kosten om de opvang te runnen.

In de afgelopen twee decennia zijn we erin geslaagd om duizenden honden te verzorgen en te herplaatsen. Het is waar we voor leven en wat we willen blijven doen. Help ons alstublieft om ons belangrijke werk voort te zetten en zwerfhonden veilig en gelukkig te maken en te houden. Gemiddeld worden er jaarlijks zo'n 250 honden geadopteerd en naar hun nieuwe baasjes in Nederland gebracht.

Wat zijn de geschatte kosten?

We hebben een schatting gemaakt van 55.000 euro.

Met dit bedrag willen we het volgende realiseren:

We hebben een stuk land gevonden dat aan onze voorwaarden voldoet en geschikt zou zijn voor de honden. Het is gelegen in een rustige omgeving, zonder buren. Het zou onze droom zijn om dit land te kopen.

Over het doelbedrag

Het doel van de inzamelingsactie is gebaseerd op een solide schatting. Binnenkort zullen we weten wat de werkelijke kosten van het project gaan zijn. Deze kunnen afwijken van het geschatte bedrag. Op dat moment zullen we, indien nodig, het streefbedrag hierop aanpassen, maar we verwachten dat dit een aanpassing is van minder dan 10% van ons huidige streefbedrag. Wij zullen je op de hoogte houden van onze vorderingen.

Nu onze volwassen honden op een goede plek zitten, gaan we de tweede fase van fundraising in: de verhuizing van Villa GaGa. Villa GaGa, de thuisbasis van onze puppies en "special needs" honden, evenals van Gerbien, onze oprichter, moet verhuizen. In Villa GaGa vangen we ook nog eens zo'n 40 honden per keer op.

Al twee decennia zetten wij ons in voor dierenwelzijn op Lesbos en in Nederland

GaGa Animal Care zet zich al meer dan 20 jaar in om het leven van zwerfdieren op Lesbos te verbeteren. Met als resultaat dat er geen zwerfhonden meer zijn in de omgeving van (Skala) Eressos, en katten gezond zijn en goed verzorgd worden.

Wij bereiken onze doelen door:

GaGa Animal Care op Lesbos is opgericht en wordt geleid door Gerbien Fricke, een vrouw van Nederlandse afkomst. In de afgelopen twee decennia heeft Gerbien alles gegeven voor de dieren en heeft zij vele levens gered.

Eresos staat bekend om de uitstekende verzorging van de dieren: er zijn geen zwerfdieren en alle zwerfkatten worden goed verzorgd. Met de voortdurende inzet is GaGa Animal Care uitgegroeid tot een grotere en betere organisatie, met veel vrijwilligers die allemaal werken aan het gemeenschappelijke doel om honden de beste zorg te bieden en uiteindelijk een geweldige familie en een "forever home". Zoals Gerbien altijd zegt: we zullen er alles aan doen om ze veilig en gelukkig te houden.

De vrijwilligers, zowel op Lesbos als in Nederland, voeren gezamenlijk alle taken uit met betrekking tot de honden en de opvang. Het werk bestaat uit twee dagdiensten voor het voeren en verzorgen van de honden, het uitlaten van honden en het geven van essentiële trainingen, het rijden van honden naar de dierenarts en het vliegveld, huisbezoeken voor het (her)plaatsen van honden en het verzorgen van marketing- en fondsenwervingscampagnes.
