Restore Hope: Morocco Quake Relief
Tax deductible
On September 8, 2023, an earthquake struck Morocco. With an epicenter located in the rural commune of Ighil, Al Haouz province, Marrakech-Safi region, the earthquake left more than 2,900 dead and 5,500 injured in the provinces of Al Haouz, Taroudant, Azilal, Ouarzazate and Chichaoua. The tremors caused significant damage to homes and key infrastructure, collapsing wells, destroying agricultural terraces, making roads inaccessible, and leaving, in some cases, entire villages leveled and without access to water, food, or medical care.
As a decades-long partner of communities in the High Atlas, the High Atlas Foundation is uniquely positioned to provide relief as they join communities in the transition to long-term reconstruction.
Your contribution to this fundraiser will make a significant impact and help rebuild homes, restore hope, and give strength to those affected. Together, we can show solidarity and compassion and help foster trust in humanity. The funds collected will be deposited directly into the High Atlas Foundation's account. The Foundation has been doing an excellent job working with local communities, and their experience spans over 20 years in the field. They were among the first responders when the earthquake hit. Their support goes beyond immediate response to providing long-term assistance and rebuilding efforts. Read more about their immediate relief and long-term strategy here.
“The High Atlas Foundation equips Moroccan communities to become self-sustaining through income from fruit tree agriculture and carbon offset revenue — while preserving and celebrating aspects of cultural heritage across generations.
At the invitation of the communities we serve, our projects typically start with a community IMAGINE workshop that encourages and equips women to expand their confidence and self-agency while identifying personal goals and priorities. Acknowledging that sustainable development looks different everywhere, our most widely-recognized projects integrate agriculture with irrigation, clean water, sanitation, and education. They result in dependable food and incomes, green jobs for rural women and youth, and a pathway to the voluntary carbon market.
We believe that bringing communities together to create lasting solutions is the key to prosperity for Morocco, the MENA region, and the world.”
