Help Restore St. Johns Parish Church, St. Elizabeth, Jamaica
Donation protected
Hello! I’m Allison Morris, organist for the historic St. John's Parish Church in Black River, St. Elizabeth, Jamaica. I'm raising funds for a crucial restoration and repair project which aims at saving our beloved, historic place of worship.
St. John's has stood as the architectural centerpiece of the Black River town square since 1838, the year of emancipation. It means the world to the congregation that worships inside every Sunday. Our Parish Church has faithfully served the wider St. Elizabeth community through its civic, educational and charitable activities over many years. It is a respected National Monument that stands as a reminder of all the highs and lows of Jamaican history.
Hurricane Beryl did heavy damage to the building's windows in 2024, and in the process of repairs we discovered other widespread damage to the posts, columns, beams and trusses which keep the building standing. Architectural and engineering assessments have revealed that the situation is urgent.
The target for this Gofundme campaign is really a only a fraction of what we need, but we are firm believers in the "every mickle makes a muckle concept"!
Funds you donate will be used to (a) provide specially designed scaffolding to support the building and keep it safe during the restoration and (b) help fund the technical expertise and materials needed to facilitate removal, replacement and restoration of damaged structural members.
It is unimaginable to think of Black River without our iconic Parish Church. Please donate to help keep St. John's standing tall.
