Kirk and Jarrod took pride in their community, contributing selflessly. Jarrod was a board member of the E 101 Main Street Association for downtown Encinitas. Together they sponsored over 100 events to benefit local charities. They were beloved advocates for animal causes, rescuing their own dogs and providing them a loving home. They were active in fundraising for Rancho Coastal Humane Society. Many of their clients shared their selfless passions.
They built their business using the highest professional standards and ethical practices. They paid their employees’ healthcare coverage out of their own pockets to ensure they were properly cared for. When COVID 19 hit, they strove to keep Detour alive. They reached into their savings to make rent. When desperately needed, government funds fell through. Even in the midst of their own personal economic tragedy, Kirk and Jarrod listened, cared, and shared. Detour, for so many of us, meant home: a place beyond judgment, a place of loving acceptance. A place that not only made us feel great, but made us look great.
But COVID doesn’t only take lives, it destroys dreams. Seventy days without income. Seventy days of unabated expenses. It was just too much. Some might say Kirk and Jarrod gave too much. Can you really give too much love?
A number of us think it’s time, in the wake of their closure, to show them our gratitude and help them rebuild their future. They gave so much to us; isn’t it time to give back? Any small token would go a long way toward helping them rebuild their lives. Please join me and their other friends in restoring their hope.
