Hi Everyone,
My name is Sariah, and I am currently a full-time film student at Arizona State University. I am in my junior year of college and will be graduating Spring of 2022. As a film student, we must put together a 10-minute film for our final project that we will be working on for the next year. This project, if successful, can lead to internships and interest from companies. The project could help us find our future job and get started in the industry. Any opportunity is a great one!
About me:
I aspire to be a Director, and before you roll your eyes, know this isn't something I just picked. I've always had it in me and just never knew it. As a child, I was always fascinated by the concept of film. I was frequently watching movies, picking up the camera to document some incredible moment, or making home videos. I seemed to be drawn to the camera and the ability to create. Half the time, I was taking videos of my brother and I during small family road trips. We would pretend to be news reporters or interview each other in the back of our family SUV. I quickly became comfortable with our Sony video camera and our JVC video camera. In the process, I was discovering a world of creativity and unwittingly finding my strengths within the art of film.
About My Film:
I want to combine greek mythology and sexual assault, and I do not want to go into too much detail due to the risk of my title and story could be copied. If you are interested, please let me know, and I can give you my pitch! Thank you for your understanding!
Why I need funding?:
Like with all things in life, everything costs money. Being a college student, this makes funding difficult. I will be applying for grants, and I'm hoping to get one! I do not make very much money having a small part-time job at the university (extra circular), I make less than $60 every two weeks. My budget goes to gas and food, so there isn't much leftover.
My film also requires VFX/special effects, costuming, hair and makeup, location rights, music rights, production sound, and insurance. Those who don't know visual effects (VFX) are costly, especially if you don't want them to look cheesy. Effects artists typically charge you per shot in the film, and the prices average $300-$800. A lot goes into making a short film, but it can have a great result if it has a good sized budget.
Hopes for the project:
I want this project to be successful not only for a chance of opportunity but to spread awareness on sexual assault. I want to shed light on an important and, unfortunately, a common topic that falls into the shadows constantly but at the same time give a Science Fiction take. I want to show this sensitive topic can be adequately told and share what truly happens. I also want to add a touch of vengeance with the addition of a mythological character. So if you're interested in seeking Retribution, join me on my project.
Thank you for taking the time to read my story. It is most appreciated.
