I was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis only seven years ago, I was 34. My Dr. said if I did nothing, maybe in 10 years I would be in a wheelchair but they were making progress with medication so if we stay on top of it then I would have a mostly normal life. Just like everything you see about it on TV.
So we started medication and we tried so many things but I kept getting worse fast. Unfortunately it turns out I have a very rare form of MS, Primary Progressive Multiple Sclerosis.
I have now been in my wheelchair for over five years. It took only two years for me to get into the wheelchair. My disease has progressed to the point that I can no longer use my arms or hands. I am currently using a stylus and my mouth. So as you can imagine my husband does everything for me.
The only vehicles we have are two 12 year old cars on their last legs . If I need to go anywhere (Millions of doctors appointments) my husband has to lift me up and put me in the car and take my chair apart to put it in the trunk.
My chair is very heavy and it is getting increasingly difficult on his back. I am worried that he will hurt himself. We have seen vans with ramps that go in the side and that would be perfect. I could roll into the van and stay in my chair.
We would be able to leave the house for fun and not just business. I am hoping to save my husbands back. It will help me stay at home much longer. If I can manage to stay in my home for even one extra day I would be eternally grateful.
