Rally Round Riley
On the 8th of May 2016, Riley woke up vomiting and had a temp. Typical symptoms many 1yr olds have when getting sick. As time passed Riley got worse and he could barely move a muscle. Something wasn't right but no one could have imagined just what was about to happen. Riley was taken to seek medical advice and was told out of precaution he should go to the Womens and Childrens Hospital. The hospital was an hour and a half drive away and by the time the family arrived he was covered in a rash from head to toe. Doctors took one look at him and he was quickly rushed out the back where he was sedated, put on a breathing tube and pumped full of antibiotics and once stabilised the family were told it was meningococcal b and the first 24hrs were critical and he had a very high chance he wouldn't make it through. Riley suprised everyone with how strong he was and how hard he was going to fight for his life and he has won the battle but not without sacrifices. Riley has always been an outgoing boy who spent all his time playing outside either in the backyard or at the park and after a long battle and alot of obstacles is now a 4 limb amputee and has had to have skin grafting to the majority of his body. He has spent the last 4 months in hospital and doctors have no plan on discharging him anytime soon. We hope to raise money for the the ongoing care and support Riley needs, including prosthetics and gadgets to help him with everyday tasks. If you want to help by donating thank you and for those who just want to leave a supportive message Riley would love to hear from you :) xx
