Vanessa Guillen Mural- West Side of SATX
*Any donations that exceed the goal amount, will be directly donated to
Vanessa Guillen’s family. Thank you!*
Over the last several weeks, many alumni
of Latina Leadership Institute (LLI) have
jumped into action by calling our congressmen and senators and demanding a congressional investigation on Vanessa Guillen’s murder. On July 4, some alumni even put out a call to action, mobilizing our community in less than 24 hours to create a public altar, honoring Vanessa. Hundreds of flowers, notes, signs, candles and sympathy cards were left from the San Antonio community. We were glad to create a space for our city to pray, to pay their respects and to stand in solidarity with the Guillen family and many who have suffered similar abuses.
Because of you, we are inspired to create a more permanent space for our community to continue to honor Vanessa’s life while also raising awareness of the senseless and constant violence against women.
We are asking for your support to help us fund a mural dedicated to Vanessa Guillen. We want to put forth a message that says without justice and transparency, we in San Antonio, Texas, will not give up our daughters, nieces and sisters to the military so easily. In a population predominantly Latinx, we know just how important it is to create a space to mourn the loss of one of our own, while honoring her indefinitely.
This mural will be located on the city’s west side. Art will be created by local artists
Adriana Garcia and Ana Laura Hernandez. All donations will go towards supplies and
labor. Adriana and Ana have graciously offered to waive labor costs for this project.. but we want to raise a little something for them anyway!
