Short Film made in Wicklow
Donation protected
Welcome to our GoFundMe Campaign to shoot a beautiful short film entirely in County Wicklow. I'm Dave Thomas, an award-winning filmmaker based in Arklow, Wicklow. My goal is to make a heart-warming short film with a high production value that will showcase County Wicklow, the many talented cast and crew that we have in Wicklow and from around Ireland, and to bring a story with a very important message to a national and international audience.
With your support, the film will be submitted to Oscar-qualifying film festivals where it can be screened to large audiences while in the running to get selected for an Oscar Nomination.
That's our goal.
The Story
Seven Moments in Time is about bridging the gap between generations, something we don’t do very well as a society. Young people and the elderly remain in separate worlds with no bridge between them. This can lead to a disconnect between generations, misconceptions and fear. Wouldn’t it be lovely to change that?
In this story, an older man sits on a public park bench weekly to eat sandwiches and drink tea from his flask. This becomes an issue when a teenager sits on the older man’s bench. Two generations often perceived as worlds apart are characterised by the two people sitting on separate benches. The physical and cultural divide gives the impression that these two people will never get on, will never understand each other, and will never find a connection.
Each moment in time reveals the differences between the two generations. And then, a moment in time changes everything.
How you can support
Whatever you can afford, it would mean the world to us. A donation towards our costs will help enormously.
• Individual Donations can be any amount from €10, and there is no upper limit.
• Large Businesses that wish to have their Name/Brand stand out in the rolling credits can donate €1000. You get a single line that stands out in the credits. There are a maximum of six single lines.
• Small businesses wishing to have their name/brand on the Thank You list can donate any amount from €200.
• All businesses will get shoutouts across our social media platforms (LinkedIn, Instagram, Facebook, Twitter and YouTube).
How will you spend the money?
Most of the money goes back into the local economy. So it’s a win-win for everyone.
Our costs will vary but will include the following:
Insurance. Catering. Props. Set Design. Marketing and PR. Hair and Makeup products. Batteries. Equipment Rental. Post Production costs including Subtitles for hearing impaired audiences. Expenses for cast and crew when possible. Bottles of Water. Stationery and Office Supplies.
And there will always be more supplies required during and after the shoot.
What will not be paid from the GoFundMe Campaign:
Fees to Cast and Crew. While I believe that every person should be paid for their time, talent, experience and expertise, it is just not possible to cover all of this with a budget of €20,000 for this specific project. I will be inviting professional filmmakers, film students and others to provide ‘services in kind’ to help support this project. In return, they get a film credit, and in some cases experience of working with professionals. Lunch will be provided for each day of the shoot. Insurance cover will also be required.
We will begin production at the Woodenbridge Hotel & Lodge on 20th May.
