Support Spindle Films Foundation This Giving Tuesday: Empower the Next Generation of Gender-Diverse Filmmakers

Spindle Films Foundation is a non-profit organization championing the next generation of transgender, non-binary, two-spirit and gender-diverse filmmakers. Our mission is simple: to make the film and television industry more equitable, more inclusive, and more representative of all voices. Through mentorship, education, and community-building, we’re creating a space where underrepresented creators can thrive—and tell their own stories.

This Giving Tuesday, we’re launching our first-ever fundraising campaign, and we need your help to bring a new chapter to life.

Here’s the story we want to tell together:

Over the course of our first year of programming, we’ve seen how much the world craves fresh, diverse perspectives in the film industry. Filmmakers in our community are brimming with passion and talent, but they often lack the foundational training needed to step into their first professional roles. While we offer programming for emerging filmmakers who already have projects under their belts, many potential applicants have told us they don’t meet the criteria for our current programs and need help taking the first step in their careers.

Our mentees, mentors, guest speakers and Spindle Films Foundation staff at the Banff Centre for the Arts for our inaugural program.

So, we’re answering that call. We’re launching a pilot program: the Entry-Level Producing Intensive. This two-day virtual workshop will offer a deep dive into the basics of producing, featuring masterclasses from industry-leading producers. It’s the kind of training that gives emerging filmmakers the knowledge, skills, and confidence to make their mark in the industry—and to help shape the future of storytelling itself.

To make this program a reality, we’ve set a modest fundraising goal of $2,500. This will allow us to deliver the workshop and provide valuable training to a group of emerging filmmakers in our community. But if we surpass our goal—and we’re hopeful that we will—every additional $2,500 we raise will allow us to run another workshop, helping even more filmmakers access the training and resources they need.

We also welcome individuals or businesses who are interested in sponsoring an entire workshop. If you or someone you know would like to support this program in this way, please don’t hesitate to connect with us. Your partnership could directly pave the way for the next generation of filmmakers.

Here’s how you can help:
