Security: This fundraiser has been ended.
Starting in November, a small group of neighbors got together and engaged private security company, Primary Defense Corp., to patrol Seaton, Ontario, Milan, Berkeley & Poulette Streets between Dundas and Shuter. The security guard has been performing safety patrols at night. The goal of the security patrol is to work alongside our first responders to increase safety in our neighborhood.
During the hours which our security guard was on duty, there have been:
-no overdoses or overdose deaths
-no break ins
-no thefts
-no assaults
The Private Security Guard is trained in CPR and First Aid. They have the ability to aid people in distress, alert paramedics and/or police, kindly discourage trespassing & loitering, and act as our eyes and ears while we are sleeping.
The security patrol costs approximately $205 per night.
If we can reach our initial goal of $10,660 it will pay for security two random nights per week for six months.
If we can get to $15,990 we can pay for security THREE nights per week for six months.
Our ultimate goal? If we can get to $74,825, we can pay for security SEVEN nights a week for ONE YEAR!
If everyone participates, that is less than $200 per person to have private security keep our neighborhood safe SEVEN NIGHTS PER WEEK!
All of the funding for this initiative is from generous neighbors, like you. If we all contribute a little, no one has to contribute a lot.

FAQ:
Q: What instructions does security have? What is the goal?
A: To Deter and Disrupt Crime, and to provide help to anyone who needs it. Our goal is to make life as uncomfortable as possible for criminals to push them out of our area and to bring much needed attention to the rash of violence and crime in our neighborhood.
Q: Who are they accountable to?
A: DIRECTLY TO YOU! Please contact us via the contact link for more info.
Q: On what days & times does the person patrol the streets?
A: Security are patrolling two to three nights per week in a changing rotation and varying hours, this is to ensure criminals can’t ‘time their crimes’
Q: How do we identify the person? Is he/she in uniform? Is the person on foot, bicycle or car?
A: The security officer is uniformed and patrols in a white car marked ‘security’ with a blinking orange strobe, the officer also gets out to do foot patrols of parks and to check blind spots.
Q: Does this exonerate our ministers and councilors from their responsibility?
A: ABSOLUTELY NOT! In fact, this initiative has increased pressure on our politicians to act now.
Q: Are police aware of this? Will the security person collaborate with the police?
A: Police are aware of the initiative and security is working with the police.
