Natural Born Hustler
I am an independent singer/writer/entertainer currently based in Virginia. “Supposed to Love ” (STL) is the follow up single to my Love Finds Its Way EP and I've been working hard to plan the video that we will be shooting for it next month. Last year, my supporters successfully funded the video for “$2 Bill " and I’m coming to you for help again.
I have an industry contact that loved STL and asked if there was an unreleased video as he was interested in debuting it on a major platform; it's one that I won’t name here, but trust me when I say it would be a huge milestone for me. I'm teaming up again with the “Visual Bully” himself, Monseé , who shot the beautiful “$2 Bill” video (shown above) and has directed videos for a number of artists including Travis Barker and Yelawolf. I'm super excited because this time we are planning to shoot in LOS ANGELES!! Why California? We chose L.A. because there we will have access to higher end equipment and resources that are more on par with what industry is using for music videos.

The first line in STL is “Natural born hustler”, which after writing this song I realized has always been a theme for me. I’ve always worked hard for what I wanted, and this project is no different. With lots of work invested behind the scenes, "Supposed to Love " has been my most successful song to date with over 2,000 plays on Soundcloud, not including the sales on iTunes and other digital music outlets. A true hustler is all about forward progression but I need a team to help me get there – that’s where you guys come in.
We are projecting a cost of about $6000, including travel to Los Angeles, California. Exceeding that goal would be a blessing since there will still be additional costs to promote the video. If 250 people pledged just $25, we would exceed that goal.

REWARDS!! Which Jewel are you?
I recently posted on Instagram about my late mother, Jillian, and often post my random insightful thoughts with the hashtag "#Jewels". In addition to "Jewels" being what I call those that show love by following my movement, the "Erikka J’s Jewels" concept is all about maintaining a regal character while spreading knowledge, making music with a message and feeding souls with that music. Proverbs 20:15 says “There is gold and a multitude of rubies, but the lips of knowledge are a precious jewel.” I found this passage while planning for music marketing and don't believe it was a coincidence that the chapter and verse match the year we are in, 2015.
In this age of twerk and turn up, our media is flooded with sex saturated lyrics/imagery and shallow messages. As a single mother of two (who appear in my $2 Bill video :), that reality concerns me. I’m no saint by any means, but my vision is to restore balance by making music that means something to people, about real experiences, that either multiplies joy or divides pain; that leaves someone saying “Hey, I went through that too”. "Supposed to Love " is an example of the latter, as plenty of us have experienced the woes of a breakup. This video is what we need to get mainstream to pay attention in a market inundated with new music.
