Join us in fighting for the legal protection of the short-term rental (STR) economy!
Unreasonable STR ordinances must be challenged for the protection of all homeowners' rights and the preservation of Vermont's tourism industry.
The Vermont Short Term Renal Alliance (VTSTRA) is working with MSK Attorneys--a Burlington-based law firm--to bring winnable STR challenges to Vermont Courts. MSK supports landowners’ rights and is willing to work with affected STR owners to try to protect those rights.
It will take ALL OF US to support these legal challenges!
Filing a lawsuit is expensive. Not all households can afford to take this on alone. As a community of hosts, guests, and industry vendors, we can ease that burden if we all chip in and support this common cause.
A win in any Vermont community is an established precedent and a win for the entire industry!
We're looking to support 3 cases ($25k per lawsuit) and secure solid legal precedents for STR regulation in Vermont.
Unreasonable regulations challenges may include:
- Owner-occupancy or residency requirements
- Commercial treatment of rental properties in zoning and/or tax law
- Caps on the number of rentals a person can own
- Onerous, outlandish, or discriminatory fees or taxes
Make a donation online through this GoFundMe page, or mail a check payable to "VTSTRA" to: PO Box 282, Richmond VT 05477 with the "Legal Action Fund" written in the memo line.
Thank you!!

DISCLAIMER
This crowdfunding effort is solely for the benefit of funding STR-related lawsuits filed by a member of VTSTRA whose case is pre-selected by the VTSTRA Advocacy Committee and our partnering law firm, MSK Attorneys.
Funds are deposited directly into VTSTRA's business savings account. This effort is not for the personal benefit of any attorney at MSK Attorneys nor is it for the general budget of VTSTRA.
Your contribution to our Legal Action Fund will help finance member-driven lawsuits only, and in no way serves as a retainer for legal services and in no way creates an attorney/client relationship between you and the attorneys handling these cases.
Any suit filed will have a named plaintiff(s) who are owners or operators of short-term rentals in Vermont and as such, those named plaintiffs will be the only ones to officially enjoy the attorney/client relationship with the handling attorneys. The attorneys are ethically bound to only share information with their clients and, therefore, cannot share information with others, or respond to inquiries from others, regardless as to whether they have contributed to this Legal Action Fund.
Again, thank you for your contribution to the VTSTRA Legal Action Fund!
