The 'Saga of Braina' Book Translation Project

Hello, and thank you for taking the time to consider contributing to our fundraiser!

In 2010, Kim Gershon (currently age 93) completed the painstaking years' long work of self-publishing a masterfully-written memoir called, 'Saga of Braina: The Tale of the Experience' to chronicle the harrowing true stories of his Jewish family members' lives in the former USSR under brutal Stalinist repression during the WWII Holocaust era. In particular, the book describes the trials and tribulations of his mother, Braina, who was imprisoned in a hard labor camp for the 'crime' of being a wife of a political "enemy of the people". This deeply heartfelt and engaging book deserves to be preserved and treasured, so that those of us fortunate enough to not have had to live through these experiences ourselves, can at the very least pay our respects, bear witness, and never forget.

A decade later, some of Kim's devoted family undertook the work of translating 'Saga of Braina' from its original Russian version into an English edition, so that it could be made more widely available to a larger audience. It took several years for this challenging labor of love to be finished - and as of December 2023, the English version is finally here!

We are delighted that 'Saga of Braina' is now available in paperback, hardcover, and Kindle versions, and you can get a copy for your very own bookshelf here on Amazon! Purposely, the prices were set to the lowest allowable amount that just covers the costs of printing, so as to make the book as accessible as possible for all readers. Per the author's wishes, both the English and Russian versions of the book are also available for free online, to make it even more accessible to all: www.SagaofBrainaBook.com

We deliberately have not been trying to make any profit on this book, but it has cost us a significant amount of money to produce it nonetheless, for tasks including: hiring a professional Russian translator for the initial English draft (which was then painstakingly re-edited and quality-checked by several of Kim's family members); paying copyright fees in US and Canada; hosting the website for the book; etc.

The family of Kim Gershon have been willingly paying these various costs out of our own pockets, but we're launching this fundraiser in hopes that other friends and fans of 'Saga of Braina' who likewise appreciate the value of this momentous work, might be willing to contribute to offsetting the costs we've been taking on over the years towards making this book available to you. Every contribution, in any amount, is tremendously appreciated!!

Furthermore, please feel free to leave a comment or question along with your contribution, particularly if there's anything you wish to have passed along directly to the author. We would love to make a scrapbook of all your comments and hand-deliver it to our beloved Kim as a gift, because your thoughtful words about 'Saga of Braina' would truly mean the world to him! If the GoFundMe site isn't allowing you to post a comment here, please send it instead to Marsha.Gershon at gmail.com

Thank you again for your consideration, and we sincerely hope you enjoy the book!
