Young Dallas Supermom Battles Cancer
Donation protected
Our dear friend Sameerah is fighting one of the most trying, but Lord-willing, winnable battles of her life: stage 3 inflammatory breast cancer. We are rallying in positive and optimistic support for her victorious triumph over this faceless disease.
Sameerah Abdul-Jami (née Walker) is a loving wife and mother of 3 beautiful children, 1-year-old Muneerah, 3-year-old Tariq, and 5-year-old Idris. She is a teacher, trained actress, beautiful vocalist, all-around SuperMom and one of the funniest people you will ever meet.
A few months ago, while breastfeeding her young daughter, Sameerah noticed some swelling and breast pain. She logically assumed it was mastitis - a non-critical inflammation and breast pain often experienced by breastfeeding women. When the pain and discomfort persisted for several weeks, Sameerah went to see a doctor.
Upon examination, her primary care physician quickly referred her to a breast surgeon who informed her that she had a rare and aggressive form of cancer called inflammatory breast cancer. As in Sameerah's case, there is often no lump present and it is never stage 1 or stage 2. From the beginning, it presents as Stage 3 breast cancer affecting the entire breast. In a matter of weeks or months it can quickly progress to stage 4, spreading to other organs. At the time of her diagnosis, Sameerah’s Stage 3 cancer had spread to her lymph node.
As many know, the economic impact of illness can be high. The cost of cancer is especially burdensome. Unfortunately, Sameerah’s case is no exception. To diagnose her condition, the breast surgeon sent her for a very vital MRI and biopsy of both breasts and underarms. Her limited insurance plan at the time did not cover this testing and ONLY COVERERD THREE visits to the doctor per year before she was required to pay out of pocket. Having already exhausted her three visits, she was billed $3,000 and given a short time frame to pay for the testing. Shortly after the diagnosis, she was admitted to the hospital where her three day stay resulted in a $59,000 bill. Sameerah has a one-year treatment plan that includes chemotherapy and radiation.
IMPORTANT: Sameerah doesn’t want sad thoughts or melancholy, ONLY encouraging, uplifting vibes of positivity. We are starting this campaign to help Sameerah and her husband Muhammad, who is the sole provider for the family of 5, pay for uncovered medical bills and other expenses associated with battling this life altering illness. We are asking for your prayers and that you donate what you can in support of this beautiful family.
Small or large, your financial contributions will, Lord willing, help toward winning this battle!
Thank you, God Bless, and may He increase you with multiple rewards.
