Savanna Bug's Medical Fund

Sweet Little Savanna Bug

I have created this GoFundMe page for my dear friends Kayla and Teddy's daughter, Savanna.

Savanna was born on April 5, 2015. There were some complications during her delivery which have now left her with a debilitating condition known as Erb's Palsy. Savanna's right arm has no movement due to the nerves in her shoulder being torn during delivery. While she has had small improvements and can slightly wiggle a couple of her fingers, the doctors believe that surgery will be in Savanna's near future. Kayla and Teddy are exploring different options and speaking with different doctors; as this type of surgery comes with a lot of risks and no guarantee of full recovery of her arm.

After her birth, Savanna spent a week in the NICU and now has daily physical therapy sessions at home as well as weekly visits to Children's Hospital. With her week-long NICU stay, weekly hospital visits, trips to different surgeons and possible surgery, the medical bills are adding up. Teddy works full time and Kayla is in nursing school and is currently not working so she can make sure Savanna gets the care she needs.

I know Kayla and Teddy want to make sure that Savanna gets the best care from the best doctors and so do I! I am hoping that together we can raise money to help make this happen so they cannot worry so much about the cost and focus on making sure Savanna has the best possible outcome from whatever comes next.

Savanna Bug is the sweetest little girl and she is perfect in every way. She has amazing parents, grandparents, aunts and countless more family members and friends who are rooting for her. I know whatever amount of money we raise will help Savanna and her parents immensely.

About Erb's Palsy

Erb’s Palsy is caused by an injury to the brachial plexus—the nerves surrounding the shoulder. This condition is also called brachial palsy, Erb-Duchenned paralysis, or Klumpke paralysis.

Erb’s Palsy is the result of a nerve injury. All the arm’s nerves are connected to a group of nerves near the neck which is called the brachial plexus. The brachial plexus nerves are responsible for feeling and motion in the hand, fingers, and arm.

Erb’s Palsy can be caused by several things which can happen during a difficult delivery. It typically affects one or two of every 1,000 babies. Cases in which the nerves are torn are the most serious and will not completely heal on their own. It is estimated that fewer than 10% of brachial plexus birth injuries result in permanent paralysis or impairment.
