Time is of the essence for Blau House & Gardens—swift action is essential.
Urgency hangs in the air as we work tirelessly to safeguard this beloved property:
Following Eileen Blau's passing in March 2023, Emily Blau and Robert Cohen are on a mission to save this cherished property. They've temporarily secured it from the Blau family estate and now invite you to play a vital role in this legacy.
The house, which has undergone recent renovations, is presently being leased. This lease helps cover operational expenses while also facilitating limited public programs in the enchanting gardens.
Your support is key! Blau House & Gardens (BH&G) needs funding to acquire and maintain the property for the benefit of all. Join us in creating a thriving community hub—your contribution will transform this space into a haven for generations! #SaveBlauGardens
To secure the future of the Blau House & Gardens property, we require a total of $3 million to acquire two vital adjoining parcels in Westport's Coleytown section:
- $1.5 million for the Blau House and Gardens at #8 Bayberry Ridge Road
- $1 million for adjacent property at #5 Fairview Drive, for parking and support facilities
- $500,000 Establish an endowment for operations and maintenance over 5 years.
The immediate focus is on acquiring the #8 Bayberry Ridge property and gardens, requiring a minimum of $1.5 million.
While we've made strides with small grants from Connecticut Humanities for pilot programming, non-profit development, and operational expenses over the past two years, additional support is crucial.
The Blau House has also been recognized by the Connecticut State Historic Preservation office, receiving a grant to finalize the nomination for inclusion on the state historic register. Despite these accomplishments, we operate without a dedicated staff on a volunteer basis.
Your contribution will not only help us meet the minimum funding requirement but will also ensure the preservation and flourishing of the Blau House & Gardens for generations to come. Join us in this noble endeavor to safeguard a piece of history and create a lasting legacy in Westport.
