Can you help us save the landscape around Fyrish Monument?
Donation protected
Novar Estate and RWE want to build 20x250m night lit turbines, the tallest in the UK, on the hills adjacent to Fyrish Monument. This planning proposal would dwarf this historic and listed site with wind turbines.
Our small glen already has 6 wind farms with a further 2 x windfarms, 6 x Battery Energy Storage Plants, 1x hydrogen plant and 2 x solar arrays in planning. We recognise and support the drive to Net Zero, but we now feel that this planning application is a turbine blade too far!
Please support us in trying to keep this unique landmark protected against turbine development. Your money will help us pay for legal and professional bodies which stand ready to fight this development under the banner ‘Save Fyrish’ and say no to turbines in this area
Local campaigners ask: Should energy investors be allowed to take our Highland heritage as well as their profits?
Please help us safeguard Fyrish Monument for future generations. Please donate whatever you can – every penny counts.
Save Fyrish is a community-based organisation fighting to preserve this iconic landmark. And we can… with your support.

Petition to ban RWE from building the tallest wind turbines in the UK next to Fyrish Monument, Easter Ross
This petition calls for the rejection of RWE's application to install 20 wind turbines, each 250 meters tall, near Fyrish Monument, a prominent and historic site in Ross-shire. The petition argues this development will impact an iconic site, the local community, its visitors, wildlife and local resources. Key concerns are:
1. Visual and Acoustic Impact: Fyrish Monument is a popular tourist and local destination, drawing over 20,000 visitors annually. The visual disruption, noise, and flashing night lights of 20 turbines, the biggest in the UK, will destroy the monument's iconic standing in the landscape, reducing the cultural and socio-economic value it provides. They will be visible from over 45km away.
2. Environmental Concerns: The turbines will threaten protected wildlife, including red-listed species such as capercaillies, hen harriers, and red kites.
3. Historic significance: The Fyrish monument has a unique place in history recalling a specific period of hardship for the local population. Its stark outline represents that story and should not be overwhelmed by turbines.
4. Cumulative Impact: The petition highlights the compounded effect of the proposed turbines in conjunction with the existing Novar 1 & 2 wind farms and the SSEN Spital to Beauly power line, further contributing to the environmental and socio-economic burden on the area.
While understanding the need for Net Zero, please support us in trying to keep this unique landmark protected against turbine development.
