Help Save Luna!

Donation protected
Wednesday evening around 5:30 Luna was hit by a car. Kirk was starting dinner and Karen, Lily, and Luna just got back from a walk. They were playing in the yard and Luna was running around like she does every day, and suddenly it just happened.

We rushed her to Onion River Animal Hospital and her prognosis was not good. She had punctured lungs, internal bleeding and a broken rear leg. She would not survive the next 24 hours without medical attention; and even with medical attention we didn’t know if she would
make it.

They were able to remove free gas in her chest cavity, and get some oxygen back into her system along with some pain management. They stabilized her as much as they could before we had to transport her 45 minutes to Burlington Emergency Vet Specialists, with a chance she may not even make it through the transport. We sang songs to Luna the entire way and made it to BEVS.

At Bevs they put her in an oxygen chamber to help her breathe. They are doing everything they can to monitor her internal bleeding and they are working to stabilize her vitals. They originally estimated she has about a 50/50 chance to survive. There is the possibility at any moment within these first 24-48 hours that things take a turn for the worst.

After surviving through the first night, Luna’s vitals were starting to return to normal levels, but bruising in her lungs and internal bleeding are still very concerning. After initial x-rays it also looked like Luna’s leg would have to be amputated.

Luna has continued to progress since, and is able to mostly support herself breathing, but it’s likely she will need a blood transfusion before surgery as the internal bleeding continues to be an issue.

It’s tough to describe how much Luna means to us other than saying she is a member of our family. She’s our daughter, she’s Lilys sister. She’s the smile on a tough day. She’s the strength that carries us up mountains when we’re too tired to continue. At only a few days away from 4 years old there are so many more family adventures and memories this girl needs to be a part of. She comes everywhere us, the family is not complete without her.

While we have taken out a line of credit and tapped into our savings to pay for Luna’s care we are gratefully accepting donations to help give Luna the best chance possible at coming home. We’ve received estimates for her care to try to keep her alive at $3,600, but that doesn’t include surgery for her leg. We have received some news that it may be possible to save her leg, but the surgery will cost around $4,000 if we go this route.

We are going to do absolutely everything possible to save Luna and her leg but we simply don’t have the means to cover all of these expenses on our own, which is why we’re reluctantly reaching out for help.

Any monitory contribution that you’re able to make is appreciated; and all the prayers, love, and healing vibes we continue to receive are gratefully accepted as well. This love along with the medical attention Luna has received are the reason she is still with us. From the absolute bottom of our hearts, we thank you in playing a part in keeping our family whole.
