The full story for those who ask…

James T Kirk was born in the sunset district of California 1967. This would be the same year that Star Trek would debut and Kirk would quickly gain the nickname "Captain". Some folks would have run from that moniker. Our friend Captain Kirk would embrace it.

In the late 90’s, Kirk's uncle would pass on leaving his house to Kirk's mom. She and Kirk would live and adventure in the house for the next 25 years. Some times were good, especially during the holidays or when people would adventure through to see Kirk’s art. Some times were bad. Kirk and his mother took care of their addicted sister until she would tragically pass. In the end it was just truly a home.

Kirk’s mother, a loved member of the community, passed about 3 years ago with no will. She fully owned the house and had a surprisingly decent estate also. From day one, Kirk just wanted to buy his home of 25 years.

Kirk is a truly wonderful character. A mix of Willy Wonka, Emperor Norton and Angus Young. A handyman by trade and a gadabout by nature. He has never had a credit card or bank account. His credit score is currently N/A, which in our modern world, is damned impressive. He’s not a borrower but he’ll lend you the shirt off his back.

To attempt to buy the house Kirk first went to court and asked his sisters to co-sign a loan so that he could pay them out. This was a no go, and is understandable and no fault to his sisters for being wary. However, Kirk would continue to go to court multiple times to no avail. He’d find dates were moved or canceled altogether. Often he was alone on the court steps. While he was trying to buy the house he got little response from his sisters. They would not give him a price. They would not negotiate. Instead, Kirk simply got multiple eviction notices.

So Kirk raised 3000 dollars, secured a private market loan and again reached out to his sisters. Once more he received silence, more eviction notices and real estate agents trying to access the house during Covid.  One time his brother in law showed up and barraged him with insults and demands that he move out of his home so they could sell it. Suffice it to say this has created massive stress for a Kirk and the other tenants in the house.

Still Kirk pushed forward. He secured a 2nd loan, tried to talk with his sisters, tried to buy the house. At every attempt all he was told was that he needed to bid on the house with a real estate agent. A house in which he owns 1/3 of already. When he went to the attorney he thought was working for him he would find out that the attorney was solely working for his sister. It has been difficult, and at times, nonsensical.

So here he is today. A court date of Dec 7, where Kim Oanh Pham, a real estate investor and agent out of Santa Clara,  is trying to buy the house. Site unseen, blind to the neighborhood and the importance of this house, and Kirk, to it.

So we are raising funds, raising awareness, and fighting like hell to keep this resource available to the public. Thanks for donating. Thanks for sharing. And thanks for being weird enough to read this.
