Save Echo’s Smile: Broken Jaw Treatment

Donation protected

Hi! I am normally not the type to ask for help; in fact, I'll do everything in my power to NOT ask for help and do things on my own. But I'm going to swallow my pride on this one.

This is my Golden Retriever puppy, Echo. She is 9 weeks old and normally a pretty happy, healthy girl. On Friday, Nov 15, I noticed her face was swollen and assumed she got her collar stuck on something or hurt herself doing puppy things. Upon watching her for a few hours, I noticed the swelling wasn’t going down, so I took her to the vet. After X-rays were done at the vet, it was determined that her jaw was broken. We are uncertain the exact cause of the broken jaw as no accident or injury was seen. She did have a tooth that hasn’t erupted so it was initially thought to be a dental issue so we followed up with a dentist.

Echo went to a specialist(dentist) today, where a CT was done and we opted to go ahead with surgery to fix her jaw. The total cost of the surgery was $4697.66 and Friday’s vet bill $252.52, taking the total to $4950.18 before any follow up care.

Echo had surgery on 11/18 and did very well. She stayed in good spirits her entire recovery. She was on soft foods and restricted from toys or playing (tough for a puppy) for 4 weeks. Right before Christmas at one of her follow up dental appointments, she got the clear to resume normal activity. She has to see the dentist again in about 6 months to take a look at her adult teeth. The fracture likely caused some issues there but we have to wait and see.

Barely one year ago (October 2023), my dog Tessa was bitten by a snake and then subsequently got pneumonia and eventually passed away (December 2023). Because of this, I am a little more financially strapped in the emergency vet bill department than normal as I haven’t fully recovered from those pretty large veterinary expenses from last year. Maybe getting a new puppy wasn’t the best idea when I hadn’t fully recovered but it’s where I am now and I never could have imagined this would happen.

We are fundraising to help cover some of the veterinary expenses for Echo's treatment. Thank you for any help you can provide, even if it’s just sending good vibes.
