DeRuyter Lake Islands Construction Fund
Don protégé
In 1998, DeRuyter Lake Association members donated time and money to create a gabion cage barrier around the perimeter of Ward Islands to protect them from erosion. Were it not for this project, the islands would not be here today.
While much of that work remains, the years have deteriorated the barrier around the islands. Large sections are in disrepair and a significant amount of water has seeped in behind the barrier. Today, we estimate that approximately 85 feet of shoreline behind the barrier on the south island (the big one) has washed out and needs to be back-filled.
With the ground between the islands and the peninsula soon to freeze, we have an opportunity to bring heavy equipment out to the islands and conduct needed repairs this winter.
We estimate the out-of-pocket costs (i.e., heavy equipment rental, stone & materials) for this project to be $10,000 - $12,000. We presently have about $7,000 in the Save The Islands account. We need to raise approximately $5,000 to make up the shortfall in our budget.
Your donation will help us complete this project and preserve the islands on DeRuyter Lake for future generations.
Thank you for your support!
