Hello!
My brother, Mike moved to Maui ten years ago. He had hoped to rest and recuperate from a tragic injury that left him with significant pain and a permanent limp. Upon arrival, he immediately realized that there was a desperate need to care for the island's overpopulation of cats. He bought humane traps and helped set up spay and neuter clinics. Over time, he's helped get over 1,500 cats fixed and found homes for hundreds of desperate cats and kittens. He’s rescued terrified cats trapped inside car engines and thrown into dumpsters. Though physically disabled and on a fixed income, he spends 8 hours every evening driving through town - his car loaded with food and fresh water. Each day he feeds 20 separate cat colonies and supports nearly 300 healthy, fixed cats. Many of these cats are friendly and depend on my brother for their survival.

Despite an occasional donation from a food bank, he still spends over $1,200 a month of his own money just on pet food. Sadly, there are also packs of wild, starving dogs that often kill the cats or at the very least, eat their food. To help assuage this, my brother painfully treks deep into a hilly gulch carrying kibble and fresh water for the raging dogs. Sad and exhausted, he struggles to feed everyone even during storms and hurricanes - in fact the only day he’s taken off in 10 years was to attend our father’s funeral. We've asked many animal groups for help, including Best Friends and The Maui Humane Society but they've all confessed that they’re not in a position to help these homeless, discarded animals. Unfortunately, Mike is now out of money. With his meager savings depleted, there simply isn't enough food. Tragically, without help, most of these cats will die of starvation.

I'm reaching out because I'm hoping that together, we can help save the cats of Maui. And my incredible brother!

Thank you so much for taking the time to read this.

With hope and gratitude,
Donna Willinsky
