Keep Our Wicked Lady's Doors Open

HISTORY:

We opened Our Wicked Lady (OWL) in July of 2015 in Bushwick, the heart of Brooklyn’s independent music scene. OWL is a bar and music venue for our community, its bands and music lovers all around.

We quickly garnered praise for our authenticity, sound, and dedication to the music scene. Performing on the OWL stage became a goal for most NYC bands. Our Wicked Lady became one of NYC’s cultural institutions.

We flourished in productions and reputation among bands and fans alike; but keeping the doors open in the early days wasn’t easy. We created OWL from the ground up without a nest egg. But things were getting better step by step and the future was looking bright.

Then the world was hit by Covid. It devastated the bar and music venue scene. The costs to survive were relentless. We took on massive debts in order to stay open.

PRESENT DAY:

From our summer Sunday Soul Scream series (with nightlife star Jonathan Toubin), to packed hip-hop dance parties, activist fundraising and our now famous Winter Madness Tournament, bringing new talent to the stage for a bracketed competition every February, our diverse booking supports the breadth of the scene.

But even with these amazing events, OWL is not making ends meet. Post Covid NYC has less people going out, less people staying out late and the cost of doing business has skyrocketed. The debt from surviving Covid combined with the changes in the bar scene have put Our Wicked Lady on the brink of extinction.

THE FUTURE:

We are facing closure. But we want to save Our Wicked Lady and it’s community, even if that means giving it up.

Our plan is to find people (who share our vision) to either buy the business or partner up to keep it going. But these things take time and we’re rapidly running out of time.

We are asking you to help us keep the doors open a little longer so we can find someone who can SAVE OUR WICKED LADY. Our only hope at maintaining this profoundly inspiring music venue is to sell it to someone who wants to rescue OWL and keep this community alive.
