Save an Afghan Interpreters Life
Donation protected
Tamim* faithfully served as an interpreter for the U.S. Army in Afghanistan for five years. As a direct result of his assistance to the U.S. military, he and his family have received multiple threats to their lives from the Taliban. Consequently, they have endured years of isolation and are in constant fear of the growing threat of a resurgent Taliban. After several years of navigating the U.S. immigration system, Tamim is nearing the end of the Special Immigrant Visa process, which is designed to allow Afghanis who have assisted the U.S. military to resettle in America if they are under threat because of their work with the U.S.
The final hurdle for him to overcome is the cost of the family’s required medical exams and vaccinations. These costs are not subsidized for need, must be paid upfront, does not include travel or incidental costs, and with all necessary vaccinations can reach $550 per person. For Tamim’s family this means we need to raise $5500, which is several times the average annual salary in Afghanistan. Without these exams the family’s visas will not be processed and they will be forced to remain in Afghanistan.
Tamim, his wife, and their children have worked for years to get this close to being granted their visas. Having exhausted all other potential funding sources, we ask you to support Tamim and his family so they can escape from the shadow of the Taliban’s threats and start new lives in the United States. Funds will be raised through July 26th.
Contributions will be used by Tamim and his family to pay for their medical exams and reach safety. We are very grateful for any assistance you can provide.
