Saxton at London's ROYAL ACADEMY

Saxton Jay Walker, the time has come. The time has come for me to go farther and further as a man and as a human soul than I ever have before. My journey is unique from playing Kenickie in Grease at the incredible 5th Avenue Theater, to currently playing Blackstache in Peter and the Starcatcherat the intimate ArtsWest; it is specific and now it is in metamorphosis. As my final semester of my senior year comes to a close, I am ready to grow out of myself and transition into the artist that I am beckoned to be. With Your help I can my Dream of studying Shakespeare at the world renowned Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts in  London England a reality.

This October I was One of twelve Americans accepted into the Royal Academy of dramatic arts Shakespeare program for the final semester of my senior year. This opportunity presented to me has made my heart overflow with joy and my mind swell with the visions of my futures opportunity. My tuition total is 48,167 and so far I have paid $24,351 in scholarships more than half! with $23,816 left to go! It is my hope that I can one day spread the light, knowledge and compassion of theater in the same way hero’s and faculty do, especially to my fellow African Americans, who need to be inspired and lifted up in these trying times.

The emphasis of this practical program is on learning through the performance of Shakespeare: with work on sonnets, verse scenes, monologues, play projects, and a studio production; as well as classes in Voice, Physical Performance, Speech, Song, Dance, Clown and Armed Combat. The combat training I receive at RADA will provide me with a three-year certification from the British Academy of Stage and Screen Combat. Taking place in the prestigious RADA facilities, whose halls have housed such notable alumni as Sir Anthony Hopkins, Ralph Fiennes, Alan Rickman, Mark Rylance, Maggie Gyllenhaal, Phoebe Fox, Gemma Aterton, and Taron Egerton.

I have this unexplainable feeling that something profound will occur given the opportunity to participate in this illustrious and historical institutions curriculum. It is my hope that with exposure to such knowledge, that the wisdom and light that I possess will grow, multiply, and develop me into the human being the world would be honored to call its own.

I see light as the wisdom of the world and the understanding of others, and in order for me to try and find my true humanity, I cannot forever dwell in the darkness, I cannot forever dwell in the idea, of just identifying with people like me and understanding only me and mine.
