SAVE THE CLOCK TOWER ... um, I mean WATER TOWER!!

Remember that comical moment in Back to the Future when a woman shouting “SAVE THE CLOCK TOWER” disrupts Marty McFly from kissing his girlfriend? “Mayor Wilson is sponsoring an initiative to replace that clock!” she adds. Marty donates a quarter.

In honor of Mayor Maefsky’s retirement, Scandia Heritage Alliance announces, “SAVE THE WATER TOWER!!”

Consider making a donation to help us purchase a historic windmill, find a wood tank, and hire an exhibit planning company to build a museum display. We have reached the critical moment when our architect needs to know how the historic tankhouse is structured before finalizing plans for the arts and heritage center.

How does the pumping rod connect to the wood tank and the well below? What size windmill is correct? What historic machinery runs the system? How can we best display the working parts to the public? What are the cool stories about the tankhouse to share in interactive displays?

The state dollars awarded in 2023 do not fund our museum exhibits — we need to raise private donations and foundation grants for exhibits and to demonstrate public support to meet the required match. The timing to plan for the windmill is NOW.

So Mr. McFly — we thank you for the idea. Scandia Mayor Christine Maefsky is sponsoring an initiative to “SAVE THE WATER TOWER!” Upcoming donations will fund the effort.
