Scartaglen National School Astro Turf Pitch

Scartaglen N.S. Parents' Council in partnership with our Fundraising Committee are undertaking a major fundraising drive to provide an All weather Astro Turf playing field/sports facility on the grounds of the school.

In March 2020 we had just begun this fundraising journey with a Night At The Dogs when Covid-19 hit. This put a pause on our fundraising efforts.Therefore we now have turned to the avenue we feel will best allow us achieve our goal this Summer.

The Astro Turf pitch will provide the children of Scartaglen N.S. with a clean, non-slip and safe area for a variety of sports all year round. While we are lucky to have a grass area, our children are in school the wettest nine months of the year. Therefore it is very rare that the surface is suitable for sport and playtime and lies idle for the most part of the year.This extra space which will be accessible all year round will be invaluable for the school.Staying Active is so important for the mental and physical health of our children and this facility will help create this positive environment.

The current estimate cost of the project is €45,000. This will consists of a 30x20m pitch with a gated fence surround and a sandstone finish walking track. We have €25,000 already secured through the Parents' Council savings/some sponsorship from our proposed Night At The Dogs pre Covid-19 and a generous Bord of Management donation.

We now need your help to finish the project! We are appealing to present, past and future pupils and their families, local businesses and the community of Scartaglen and beyond who may be in a position to help us achieve our goal.All donations large or small will be very much welcome and most appreciated.We truly believe that the addition of the Astro Turf pitch will be transformative for pupils and staff.
