Operation Sober Rockstar
Everybody visiting this page knows and loves Scott Thompson and his contagious personality and smile. For the past 20+ years, it has almost been unnatural for anyone to see him without a Miller Lite or a guitar (or both) in his hand. People have come to me before, concerned with his habits, and I've always had the mindset of "nah, that's just Dad". As much as I hate to admit it, they were right.
I think it goes without saying that 2016 was an eye-opener for all of us. Unfortunately, most of you have seen the toll the disease of alcoholism has taken on him over the past year and a half. Not only has it affected his career, family, and financial situation, but for the first time I have actually been scared for my father's life. During his last hospitalization we really were looking death in the face as we saw the impact all these years of drinking have had on his body. We finally saw a light at the end of the tunnel when he was blessed with another chance... again.
I was proud to see how eager he was to heal for the benefit of himself and his family. The opportunity to watch the Thompson grandchildren grow to be as bright and beautiful as me and Logen should be reason enough for anyone to stay sober, right?
To our dismay, this demon has crept back into my father's life. We all know it's a hard battle to fight, both physically and emotionally, and you can't always conquer it on the first try. Thankfully, Dad has decided to take the necessary steps to recover from this disease we have all watched consume his life.
From the referral of a close friend, we have chosen a non-clinical, mutual help approach to the problem of alcohol dependency. The facility is located in Minnesota and unfortunately does not accept medical insurance. That being said... even though Logen and I are young and successful, we could use some help.
The facility itself costs $4,900 for the first 30 days of treatement, then offers a Sober House for residents to stay in post-recovery. Sober houses are $550 to $825 per month. I set our goal for $6,000 to cover initial expenses and hopefully a few months of support in a sober house. Anything raised above this goal will be used for travel expenses and/or bills while he is away.
If you would like more information on the facility, you can follow this link and do your own research: http://www.theretreat.org/.
The faster we raise this money, the sooner we can get back the Scott Thompson we all know and love.
