Hello Friend,
There are few people out there who do things because it's their passion. And one who also uses that passion to give back to one's community. It's rare to find a Native owned business on any reservation and it's even more so to find one that is woman owned.
Ladies and Gentlemen, meet Shayai Lucero of the Acoma Pueblo and Laguna Pueblo. She owns "Earth and Sky Floral Designs and Gallery" on the Acoma Pueblo. Let me tell you what we know of Shayai. She is a hardworking mother of two. We know there are MANY times, as a small business owner, that we've seen her put herself aside and focus on her clients. It's mind boggling to us to see the amount of love she exudes into her community through her work. We also cannot fathom her thought process to continue putting 100% of her energy into her work while dealing with her business and being a mother and caretaker on top of that. Her will power to ensure business success is a small piece of the Shayai we know. Her love of her family, especially her father, is a wonderful sight. Lucky us, she goes above and beyond to show love and support of her New Mexico community. As a huge advocate of the LGBTQ community, Shayai is always willing to lend support through donations and volunteer time for many New Mexico LGBTQ events. Her work does not stop there. She tires us out with her facebook posts of her daily tasks that she usually fulfills with love. :)
Now, the reason why you are here today is to help Shayai's friends get her to Washington DC this coming June for "The United States of Women: The Summit 2016" hosted by The White House. Shayai was nominated and selected to be apart of the summit for her work as a small business owner, but also as a woman who empowers and supports her community. Being an owner of a small business on tribal land is not a lucrative business. It takes a ton of work and time, especially time from family.
The following are estimations and the sooner we can get the money together, the more cost efficient her trip will be!
Round trip from ABQ to DC: $700
Hotel for nights of June 12th-June 17th: $1,700
Ground transportation, meals, tips, etc.: $600
Shayai needs to be there for registration on the 13th with the summit taking place on the 14th and 15th. Then a day with the family on the 16th with travel days the 12th and 17th.
We know we can make this happen!
Please help with whatever you can. This is a huge deal!
Much Love,
Shayai's Friends
