Support for Annie’s ER Debt

Donation protected
SHORT VERSION
  • Emergency care was needed because Annibelle developed mastitis and it rapidly grew until it ruptured, all within a couple of days (12/19/2023); in spite of initial vet care received at onset. The wound was pretty significant in that it required multiple visits for cleanup and redressing before it had healed well enough for suturing.
  • The total cost of all care received from the emergency animal hospital was just short of $2900. We are asking for help to cover half of this amount because vet bills are coming due soon. (We had already maxed out alternative financing options for other 2023 vet care, …and then this happened to Mumma Annie.)
  • We aren’t sure if images of the wounds are allowed here, but we will add them on our Instagram (highlights) to share the extent of the situation Annie was in. Funds go directly toward paying down the veterinary medical debt.

LONGer STORY
  • Some people have said to us, “Oh, I didn’t know dogs could get mastitis.” It unfortunately cannot always be avoided, even when being diligent in maintaining a clean whelping area—which we strive to be. Thankfully the mastitis started to show right as the 3-week old pups were beginning their weaning phase. We had seen a vet and were sent home with medication for her when the mastitis was in its early stage. Poor Annie’s affected teat ballooned quickly over a short period of time and ruptured soon after, requiring urgent care. She was obviously in less pain after it ruptured, however, it was not a wound we could just hope would get better after some quick bandaging. Something was hanging from her body, and there was fluid on the floor in addition to some blood. Not to mention we had her 3-week old pups to keep at bay from all of this. She was calmer about it all than we were—bless her for that—even allowing us to do a crude wrapping of her body before getting in the car to head to the emergency animal hospital.
  • We are still very relieved to live around 15 minutes from the closest 24-hour animal hospital. Even better was the nearby Walmart (to the animal hospital) where we got additional supplies to rewrap Annie’s wound while on the animal hospital waitlist. She again was so patient and calm as the wound was rewrapped; it had soaked through what we initially used from home. There was a long time between waiting for Annie to be seen, treated, and come home but she was a super trouper throughout the whole ordeal. And so we continue to ask for support on Annie’s behalf to raise just half of the funds needed to cover her medical bills. From all of us in the Sharpeagle Family—thank you for donating and/or sharing Annie’s fundraiser!
