Olivia Grace Sherrill was born on April 7, 2016, weighing just 1.5 lbs at 23 weeks gestation.
This is the story of how this itty bitty miracle baby came to be. The story began many years ago, as Jeff and Holly began dating in their high school years. After graduation, Jeff felt a calling to serve our great nation and joined the armed forces. He was recruited to serve in Afghanistan. Holly and Jeff continued their relationship throughout Jeff’s deployment. One can imagine the emotional turmoil Holly experienced during that time. Holly, a God fearing Christian woman, prayed daily for Jeff’s safe return home. The prayers worked; Jeff returned home and soon proposed to Holly. During this time, Holly began her career as a registered nurse at Northside Hospital on the mother-baby unit. Jeff continued to serve our country. As he transitioned into civilian life; he began his career in law enforcement, and is now a police officer.
After being married for several years, the couple decided it was time to embark on the journey to parenthood. Jeff was beyond thrilled to hear the news of Holly’s pregnancy; he had been ready to be a father for years. Holly’s pregnancy proceeded normally, and the couple were thrilled to learn they were having a baby girl. At 22 weeks gestation, Holly began feeling slight discomfort. She went to work at the hospital, like normal, but half way through her shift, Holly decided that she needed to see her doctor to get checked. She could have never imagined the news that she was presented with. The doctor told Holly that her cervix was dilated and her water was on the verge of breaking. Holly was rushed back to the hospital, this time as a patient. She was placed in the hospital bed, lying upside down so that her pelvis was above the level of her head, in an attempt to keep baby Olivia inside as long as possible. Eventually, 10 days after Holly was placed on hospital bed rest, Olivia Grace decided it was time to grace us with her presence. A miracle mirco-premie, she was born at 23 weeks gestation, weighing in at just 1.5 pounds. The baby was able to stay in our level three NICU at Northside for almost two weeks, but with recent news of infection and the need for surgery, baby Olivia Grace was transferred to the Children’s Hospital of Atlanta.
Jeff, Holly, and baby Olivia have a long journey ahead of them. Holly and Jeff, both strong in their walks with Christ, have been an incredible inspiration during this trying time. They have managed to remain positive, and believe that through Christ, all things are possible. They have been able to fully give their worries to the lord, and believe that Olivia Grace is in His arms. Holly (a registered nurse) and Jeff (a police officer) have dedicated their lives to serving our community. During this time, they are in great need of help from the community that they serve daily. Please consider giving any amount that God lays on your heart; every penny counts. Olivia’s medical expenses are accruing hourly. Holly is unable to work as she is both caring for Olivia and recovering from birth. Jeff and Holly will be traveling an hour and a half from home to CHOA and eating meals on the go. These are just a few examples of where your donations will go.
Thank you in advance for your donations.
Sincerely, Holly’s coworkers.... The Women’s Center at Northside Forsyth Hospital
