Help Shield Refugee Families

Donation protected
Based in Laredo, Texas, the belly of the beast, our law firm has taken on the pro bono task of representing refugee families returned to Nuevo Laredo at the Laredo port of entry, and required to wait out the resolution of their asylum claims in Mexico. Otherwise known as the Migrant Protection Protocol (MPP), this program is the regime's latest effort at neutering our asylum laws by illegally returning desperate and impoverished refugees to the dangers of Mexico to await a determination of their asylum claims. At the Laredo port of entry refugees are returned to Nuevo Laredo, Tamaulipas, a location that the US Stare Department has declared unsafe for American visitors.  Refugees relegated to MPP - for the most part families with young children - almost always lack legal represention as lawyers, pro bono or not, are not likely to travel to Mexico to meet with potential clients. They face a daunting task in keeping their families safe while they await their asylum hearings. Our firm has stepped into this breach. We represent MPP families stranded in Mexico with court appearances at the tent courthouse in Laredo. While our legal work is provided pro-bono, we are raising funds to help our client families pay for rent, food, transportation and living expenses. Returning migrants to Nuevo Laredo places them at grave risk to their safety. They are often relegated to the streets where they are targeted by kidnappers, robbers, and sexual predators. Public places, such as bus stations, parks and plazas, are especially dangerous for refugees as it exposes them to criminal targeting. Even if they find shelter at a government or church run facility, such housing acts to attract predators waiting for an opportunity to prey on vulnerable refugee families. We cannot allow our client families to face this risk, and ask for your generous and kind assistance. Our client families have been robbed, raped and ransomed by criminal gang in Nuevo Laredo. As a result, we have located rental units for our client families in Monterrey, and are housing our clients 150 miles south of Laredo where it is relatively safe.  But we lack the resources to do so for the long haul. Please help us keep our clients off the streets and away from the clutches of Mexican criminal gangs, while we litigate their asylum claims at the tent courthouse in Laredo by contributing to our MPP client expense fund.
