Motorcyclist Hit by Wrong Way Driver
David Shook is a husband, father, grandfather, son and brother. St Patrick’s Day, 03/17/16, David left for work on his motorcycle before 5:00am (as usual). Just before 7:00am his wife received the call that everyone fears … he had been in an accident & was at the hospital. He was headed to work, driving down Pete Hollis Blvd in Greenville when a man in an SUV driving down the wrong side of the road hit him head on … David didn’t have enough time to miss the vehicle.
David’s body took most of the hit.
After arriving at the hospital the family learned that he had extensive injuries to his left leg, A LOT of broken bones as well as some internal issues. David has already had 7 surgeries: broken pelvis, left hip, left femur, left tibia, left fibula, T4 vertebrae, sternum, & multiple ribs; contusions on his kidneys & pancreas; and extensive damage to the bottom of his left leg. He has several more surgeries ahead of him and because of the damage to his kidneys he’s getting dialysis treatments for a while. On 03/25/16 David’s left leg was amputated about 5 inches below his knee & on 03/30/16 he was finally moved from the ICU to a regular room.
David has worked in the chemical industry for over 30 years. At 49 years young he is active (loves hiking, playing with his grandkids, traveling & of course riding his bike), hardworking (to say it lightly), loving and willing to help anyone & everyone he can. He has at least a year of recovery ahead of him, not only physically but also mentally as this is going to be a huge adjustment for him and also his family. While David is in a lot of pain he is strong and he is a fighter! We are beyond blessed that David is alive and we have more time here on earth with him.
We are raising money to help with his medical expenses, recovery & anything the family may need throughout this journey. David will be in & out of the hospital over the next several months for skin grafts on his knee as he didn’t have enough skin to cover the wound, will be heading to rehab at Roger C. Peace soon and will be getting a prosthetic leg in the near future. The man that hit David does not have enough insurance coverage to pay for all of these expenses so every little bit will help. Any donation is greatly appreciated and means more than you’ll ever know!
Thank you in advance for all the love, support & prayers! We love you all!
