Family from Nepal loses EVERYTHING!

Donation protected

Shreeti is to the right next to my brother, Chris. The rest are Shreeti's family. Shreeti's family lives in a small rural village just outside of Kathmandu. Pictured are her two sisters, one brother, and her mother, father, and other family members.

My brother's soon-to-be wife Shreeti currently lives in Amsterdam but her entire family still resides in the devastated country of Nepal. We all know of the tragedy that recently happened with the 7.8 earthquake that struck Nepal and their inhabitants. Many of you are aware but do not actually know how lacking the infrastructure of their country is. Even before the disaster, many people lived in deplorable conditions with little to eat and drink, let alone a safe place to rest. We all hear of the terrible things that happen to people all over the world and we never think that it could happen to one of us or our family members. When something like this does happen to someone close to us, we are never prepared to hear of the tragic news. A little about Shreeti and her family:

Shreeti Khadka moved to Amsterdam 6 years ago to pursue nursing to support her family. She did not know how to speak any other languages but Nepali but with her father being disabled and out of work, she had little choice. She learned English and Dutch, put herself through nursing school, all the while working and sending money back to pay for her family's needs and care. With her father unable to work, she paid for the mortgage and sent money home for food and basic necessities.

All seemed fine until 11:56 on April 25th 2015 when a 7.8 magnitude earthquake shook the homes of thousands of Nepalese people. It was estimated that over 80% of the rural homes of Nepal were destroyed.

After the initial earthquake, the family saw that their home had survived but still huddled in fear for over an hour as powerful aftershocks struck. Unfortunately, although Shreeti's family's house withstood the inital quake, the decaying foundation and thin walls of their home could not bear any more shaking and crumbled under the powerful aftershocks.

The family stood crying and in shock, huddled together outside for hours.... then it started to rain. They stood outside soaking wet and shivering in the frigid night air. They had nowhere go...and still don't.

This is where we need your help. Shreeti and my brother  have started a fund to not only help her family but other people in their small town and surrounding towns with much needed money to help them in their time of need.

About the pictures:

This was their house before the earthquake took it from them.

Houses in the surrounding area that were destroyed.

People sleeping outside in the rain and cold because they don't have anywhere to go.

Searching for survivors.

In light of recent exposés of the Haitian earthquake relief effort, many of you are weary and skeptical as to where the money actually goes. This GoFundMe was created because of my own apprehension to donate to charities that say they donate the proceeds yet have no accountability. This money will go directly to Shreeti, who will go and give the money to her family and other families who suffered the same tragedy. Please join me in giving what you can to help Shreeti's family and their community rebuild their homes and lives.
