Single Mom of 5 Paralyzed; Victim of Gun Violence
Donation protected
If you don’t already have the pleasure of knowing her, meet my friend Marta. Marta is an awesome, hard-working single mom to five children - Nasir, 11, Jalessia, 8, Justice, 7, Dallas, 5, and JaBreal, 4. Her children are intelligent, kind, and as you can see, beautiful. I remember when I first met her children I was completely in awe of how well behaved and well mannered they were! They are truly Marta’s pride and joy, and she more than excels at being their mother.
Sadly, on June 16th, 2020, this family suffered a severe tragedy and their lives were forever changed in a split second. On that night, Marta became a victim of gun violence right outside of their home. She was struck in the back by a bullet, causing her to become paralyzed from the waist down. She has spent the last several weeks in a rehab facility trying to learn how to adjust to a whole new way of life, as well as mentally and emotionally prepare herself to return to her home. Marta is expected to be getting released from the rehab facility soon, which will be a huge undertaking with a whole new set of challenges. She will need on-going therapy as well as medical equipment and home accommodations. These will include things such as a wheelchair (or hopefully a motorized chair), ramps installed, bathroom accommodations, and much more. She will be staying with a family member upon being released, but this will be temporary. She is going to also have to face the challenge of finding a new home for herself and her children.
More than anything, Marta needs to relocate herself and her children to a safer neighborhood with hopefully a one story home. She has so badly wanted to do this for so long, and now this is an urgent need. It would be far too difficult for Marta and for her children to have to be and live right where she was senselessly shot, as I’d imagine that would be far too difficult for anyone to endure. However, being a single mom of five, she has been doing, and will always do the best she can with what she can afford.
Ever since I’ve known Marta she has always been a hard worker who doesn’t like to ask for anything. She is easily one of the strongest most resilient women I’ve ever had the pleasure of knowing. Life has never been easy for Marta. She grew up in the foster care system and, at one point some years back, was living in her car. She has done nothing but persevere, work hard, and carry on no matter what she may have been facing, never asking for hand-outs, and always keeping a positive attitude no matter what, never giving up. She has always put her five children first and they have always been well taken care of thanks to her. What she is currently enduring is just unfathomably beyond unfair. That being said, on her behalf, I’d like to ask you to please consider making a donation to go toward Marta’s medical care & equipment but most of all, to help her and her children be able to relocate to a home where they can sleep soundly at night.
We all need a little help sometimes. Marta was the victim of a senseless tragedy, through no fault of her own. Please everyone let’s come together in the support and uplifting of this awesome mom and her children. I truly can’t think of anyone who is more deserving. Every little bit helps and will be more than appreciated. Even if you’re unable to donate anything, please please SHARE this page!!!! Thank you so much for taking the time to hear this amazing woman’s story.
