Hi, my name is Laura and I am the wife of Anthony. On July 2nd our lives changed in the blink of a second. My husband, son and I were driving through an extreme storm when the unthinkable happened. An entire tree fell down and crashed through our front window. In shock we didn’t know the severity of the damage until my husband looked down and saw he got stabbed in the stomach twice from the large branch. I quickly called 911 and told him to keep pressure on the wound after he manually pulled it out. Thankfully the ambulance came quickly and took action on getting him to the hospital. He arrived to a big group of trauma staff and immediately went up for emergency surgery. The surgery went great and they were even able to repair his hernia while they had him open. The surgery was intense as we learned the branch obliterated his belly button which was the entrance of the branch and it actually went through him and out on his side. Myself and my 8 year old son walked away with superficial abrasions due the glass shattering and cutting our legs. We are beyond grateful for being alive. Anthony has been in the hospital and in immense pain and is fully feeling the impact of his injuries. Due to the injuries he sustained, the road to recovery will be a long, slow and difficult one. He will not be able to return to work for at least two months, we’ve been told. We will have emergency medical bills, and physical therapy due for payment. Since I will be the only one working, and being the sole caregiver for my husband, we are asking for the community to come together and support us in any way they can to help us be able to afford to pay our medical bills, rent, utilities and daily living expenses. We ask for kindness and support through this horrible situation and appreciate all the outpouring love we have been continuously been receiving.
