Help a Queer Married Couple Beat Homelessness!

Hi!

My name is Rain. I am a 24-year-old trans man living with my husband, Wayan, and my mom in a hotel room since October 3rd, 2023; the day we were evicted from our home. Our lives have been turned upside down and we’re now in the midst of one of the rockiest parts of our lives. We’ve realized that, at the moment, we don’t know how much longer we can keep doing this.

Since we arrived in this hotel, we’ve been stuck in a loop. Every day, we’re all trying to earn enough money by any means (DoorDash, art commissions, etc.) just to pay for one more night in a hotel, on top of food and things like toothpaste, shampoo, deodorant, etc.

It’s not a way to live, but it’s the only option we’ve had. I’ve been on unpaid medical leave due to severe PTSD attacks (which led to our eviction). That has made this so much harder on me and my family. My mental health struggles have been overwhelming and I’ve been doing everything I can to manage it, but the stress of our current situation is only making it worse. My husband also struggles with his mental health, which unfortunately only makes it harder for us. We’re both doing our best, but right now, we feel trapped.

We’re trying so hard to break free from this cycle, but every day feels like we’re running out of options. Without help, we’re scared that we’ll be stuck in this loop forever, and we have no idea where to turn next. We need to be able to focus on our mental health, but this is just damaging it more.

We’re asking for $5,000 to get into an apartment. These funds will be dedicated to application fees, U-Haul rental, first/last/security deposits, and initial utility bill payments. Any extra funds will be used towards necessary living appliances (stove, washer, dryer, fridge, etc.) if not provided by the landlord, or used to stock groceries in the new home.

Any amount, no matter how small, would help us take the next step toward finding a home and putting an end to this cycle of uncertainty. Having a roof over our heads would give us a fighting chance to heal, rest, and rebuild our lives. We’re doing everything we can, but we can’t do this alone.

Thank you for reading our story and for any support you can offer. It means the world to us.
