Spun: Drexel Senior Film Fundraiser

I am excited and honored to be producing Kalahne Serpanchy’s senior project. Kalahne Serpanchy is a 23-year-old writer and director born and raised in Vancouver, Canada. In 2019 she moved to Philadelphia to pursue her undergraduate degree at Drexel University. With a background in traditional art & design as well as theatre, film, and television, Kalahne takes particular inspiration from her experiences as a mixed-race queer person to tell her stories with as much authenticity and emotionality as they deserve.

Our story was born out of the height of the Covid pandemic in 2020/2021 and seeks to explore those feelings of isolation, frustration, and fear that were so ubiquitous. Kalahne was struggling massively with depression and feeling that she was stagnating in the face of her peers’ progression. Her uncertainty about her own future led her to pose a question: What happens if I come out the other side of this? So, she sat down and wrote a story about what she viewed as the best-case scenario. She rendered herself down to the vulnerable core of her emotions and made a script that illustrated the worst of her own thoughts as well as the best responses that she longed to hear. She counts herself as lucky to be able to stand here today and bring this story to life- the way it brought her to life when she felt most adrift.
