St. John Children's Choir

  


The St. John All-Island Children's Choir brings the island's elementary aged children to sing together in groups of up to 130 or more for community events, as well as for two formal concerts in The Westin ballroom.  This project includes children from the Julius E. Sprauve School (public school), the St. John Christian Academy (parochial school), the Gifft Hill School (private school) and the St. John homeschooling community.   

As exciting and well-received as the choir concerts were this first year, it became clear that spacing so many children at a time on a small makeshift stage caused many problems.  Among them:
- children could not see their director conducting
- parents could not see their children in back
- it was difficult for students to hear each other.

St. John has about 4000 residents, so these concerts are big events on our little island.  When these children sing together, we know that St. John really IS "Love City."

AND... there is nothing sadder than a child who has worked so hard to sing for their community being swallowed by the crowd in a concert!

Clearly, we need choral risers!  Choral risers are stepped platforms for the singers to stand on to avoid those problems.

The sample video from our last concert with Kindergarten to grade 2 are attached.  You can see how  proud and thrilled the kids are to have this opportunity, and also how many there are of them in such a small space.  

The Wiser Riser Company has built reasonably priced, durable, easily stored and transported risers that are used by choral groups in New England.  They are perfect for us on St. John where storage space is hard to come by and transportation to our performance is a consideration!   Many thanks to Tim Ellis for constructing the plans to meet our specific needs.

The risers need to be finished by November 2017.  

These beautiful children will be so very grateful for any and all help they receive from their community and friends overseas!  Thank you, thank you, thank you - from the bottom of my heart, friends!
