Stacie's Medical Expenses
Donation protected
Early Saturday (June 11) morning, Stacie woke up not feeling like herself. She was having difficulty breathing and was experiencing numbness down her body. She was rushed to the Salem Hospital ER by ambulance. They determined that one of the arteries in her neck that pumps blood to her brain was not functioning. She was having a difficult time breathing so they put in a breathing tube. A few hours later, she was life flighted to the OHSU Intensive Care Unit because Salem Hospital was not equipped enough for her situation. The doctors gave her a blood thinner medication, which allowed her body to settle down enough to remove the breathing tube. They performed an MRI early Sunday morning, which confirmed our fears.... Stacie had a stroke!
She is still currently on blood thinners, which are helping her blood flow, but she still has an artery not functioning. She has been able to get some rest, has eaten and is able to talk to us. She is having difficulty with her right side: her leg is being difficult and her temperature sensation is different on that side. She has been having difficulty walking, but today (June 14), she has been able to walk up and down the hall a few times with the help of a walker.
We are hoping Stacie will be released from the hospital tomorrow and moved to an inpatient rehab facility for physical therapy to help her walk again with ease. We are hopeful she will recover, but we know it will take a lot of time, work, and prayers.
Unfortunately, there is no surgical procedure to get the blood to flow through the artery. The plan as of now is to remain on blood thinners for 3-6 months. She will have another CT scan in 3 months to see if the artery has repaired itself (prayers please!).
Stacie is 31 years old. She is a very healthy, active wife and mom. Her and her husband Chris, are avid runners, and enjoy spending time with their 1 1/2 year old daughter, Chloe.
Stacie has been in good spirits and has been able to see Chloe every day. She has had visitors and many people praying for her recovery.
We are asking for monetary donations to help ease the financial burden of the hospital bills and the life flight, as well as Chris' missed income from taking time off to be with Stacie. We are also in need of many prayers sent to Stacie, Chris, and Chloe as they get through this difficult, scary time together.
Hug your loved ones and never take life for granted! As we all know, your life can change in an instant. We are grateful for the quick actions of Chris getting Stacie to the hospital and for the hospital staff at Salem Hospital and OHSU working hard to keep Stacie with us. The world would be a dark place without her. Please pray for a full recovery! <3
