Standing By Afghan Families Who've Stood By Us

Tax deductible

Everyone has read the news reports and watched the heart-wrenching videos. Kabul has fallen.

Over the past two decades, more than 300,000 Afghan patriots and their families have stood boldly, shoulder to shoulder with US service members. Their actions as guides, interpreters, and intelligencers saved the lives of countless Americans. Many of our brothers and sisters, sons and daughters, mothers and fathers, neighbors, coworkers, and colleagues wouldn't be here today without the sacrifices of these dedicated Afghans. Each incurred great personal risk to help build a stable, prosperous, and equitable homeland. We owe them a tremendous debt of honor.

Despite their sacrifices, tens of thousands are still awaiting evacuation and asylum on our safe shores.

In the coming months, our abundant and welcoming region will become home to several of these interpreter families. And while our new neighbors will have escaped immediate danger, they will still need to rely on the generous spirit that undergirds our Northern Michigan to meet their immediate needs.

Long story short, in partnership with Bethany Christian Services and a group of committed community members, we're raising emergency funds to help get these families established. (Currently, we are keeping the names and locations of these families private to protect their rights, safety, and dignity.)

Funds will go toward purchasing food, clothing, and basic supplies, as well as initially helping soften the costs of housing and transportation.

Please consider making a generous contribution to this important cause.

[All funds from this campaign will be dispersed directly to Bethany Christian Services, an established 501c3, with a long history of refugee resettlement. I'll work with their staff to ensure donor receipts are sent out by the end of the year at the latest for individual tax purposes.]

This is not just about supporting a particular group of refugees. It's also about investing the resources each of us has to help build the just, equitable, and open region we wish to call home.

Thank you in advance for your generous support!
