Standing Together: Support for Midland, Mich.
Donation protected
As many are aware, my hometown of Midland, and its surrounding areas, were absolutely devastated by historic and catastrophic dam failures in the recent weeks. Thousands of individuals lost their homes due to permanent damage, while thousands of others were forced to evacuate to safety. Over 20 trillion gallons of water led to nine-plus feet of standing water in parts of the city. While I am happy to say that no one was killed, this event will affect thousands for weeks, months, and even years to come.
In addition to thousands of residents of the city, our fellow NCAA member institution, Northwood University has also been completely devastated by the flood. Dave Marsh, Northwood’s Director of Athletics, is an Eastern alumnus, while our own Jeff Czachowski is a graduate of NU.
I believe that it would be an incredible show of support for our state, our fellow NCAA partner, and our Michigan community-at-large, to do anything we can to help in the effort to support Midland. Not only is this a chance to help those in need, but it allows us to continue to show why we at Eastern are far more than an athletic department, but a family that is willing to put others first in the community.
While Ypsilanti is our home, and many throughout the department have been affected by the COVID-19 pandemic, I have always been proud of our department’s willingness to rise to the occasion and offer a helping hand in times of need.
While Midland may be just another town to some, I can personally attest to its importance and resilient nature. Thousands, including personal friends and family, have lost everything. In a time where so many were already suffering, many do not have the proper resources to live safely, and I believe that our department has the ability to help our fellow Michiganders rebound. If we band together to help just one individual, the cause will be a success.
I am asking humbly that you consider making a donation to this page. All proceeds will be donated to the United Way of Midland County – A nonprofit organization that is leading the efforts to help those in need within Midland County.
