APIs Stand w/ Standing Rock

Calling all Asian Pacific Islanders and allies who stand with the Water Protectors!

In the wake of Sunday night's attack on the Water Defenders in winter conditions, now is a critical time to continue backing the #NoDAPL efforts. A contribution of any size can help do this.

Our goal is to raise $7,000 by Dec 10, 2016 to support medical needs caused by the recent police attacks the Protectors Sunday night.  

Give in any amount, $5, $15, $25, $50, $100. Any amount helps. 

WHO WE ARE:
APIs Stand with Standing Rock is a small group of API folks who want to show up in ways that are supportive to the Water Protectors of the #NoDAPL movement. We seek to support Standing Rock through grassroots efforts.  

APIs Stand with Standing Rock was launched by Maryanne and Sergio Quiroz (Indigenous Roots) who has made regular trips to and contacts at the campsite since the beginning. Key contacts from the camp's donation center have reached out to them for ways to support the current needs. 

We cannot remain idle.  We commit to better understand, listen and to take actions that lift Native voices.

As API folks, brother, sisters, our show of solidarity and support is urgent.  We know and understand how important it is to preserve our culture and uplift our communities throughout the challenges our elders have faced, making it possible for us to exist today.

We bear witness to the damage caused by colonial institutional powers across past and future generations of Native folks particularly.   A historic 87+ Tribal nations have joined, leading the fight to preserve water rights and Native liberation at Standing Rock #NoDAPL.  


WHY THIS CAUSE:
We dedicate this campaign to Native elders, families, youth and people who are leading this fight as they embark on this for the winter. 

There is even more at stake than ever.  

Water Protectors are being brutally injured by Police attacks, recently using the worst severe force with water cannons in 20 degree weather, large rubber bullet, pepper spray all all hours, including in the middle of the night at the campsite. Still there is a media blackout where these stories are not reported by mainstream media outlets. 

Remainder supplies will support the Defenders of the Water School, supporting youths and families who have committed to set camp at Standing Rock for the winter coming ahead.  

OUR GOAL:
Our goal is to raise $7,000 by Dec 10, 2016.

Join us.  Your donation will directly help Defenders of the Water School keep its students warm through this winter and medical needs onsite.

WHAT WILL THE FUNDS BE USED FOR: 
Specifically, funds will support following:
 - One 4-person yurt, including wood-burning stove. ($2.500)
 - Two below-zero accommodating sleeping bags ($350 each)
 - Two sleeping pads or cots ($150 each)
 - Food and supplies ($1000)

 TOTAL GOAL: $7,000


Example of a yurt - Good quality yurts will keep people warm beyond a simple camping tent with a heating stove, and will take several hours to be delivered and sturdily installed onsite to withstand winter wind and weather, which comes included in the price of this yurt.
