Stop Asian Hate: End The Pandemic of Racism
Donation protected
What is the Stop Asian Hate movement?
The Asian and Asian Australian community is facing a hidden crisis; the pandemic of racism.
Since April 2020, over 540 incidents of COVID-19-related racism have been reported to the Asian Australian Alliance. The real number is much higher as we also know that 90% of incidents go unreported to authorities.
Asians and Asian Australians from all backgrounds are facing COVID-19 related discrimination at a time when the world should be acting in solidarity.
Most recently, an arbitrary travel ban on all Indian-Australians returning home coupled with excessive and harsh penalties has left thousands stranded.
A global movement to #StopAsianHate is helping fund tangible action around the world. It’s time for Australians to step up.
Why now?
COVID-19-related racism against Asians and Asian Australians is on the rise.
Sensationalist headlines appeared last year in some Australian tabloid papers stating: “Chinese virus pandemonium”, “Chinese kids stay home”, and draping the red China flag as face masks.
Meanwhile, Asians and Asian Australians are facing verbal abuse daily, being told to “go back to China” or being accused of bringing the virus into Australia.
Doctors have reported their patients refusing care due to their cultural background and the supposed “contagious” nature of the virus. This must end.
Where will the donations go?
The Asian Australian Alliance will manage all donations in a centralised fund and will be used for the sole purpose of ending COVID-19 racism. This will include:
• Legal support for those facing discrimination.
• Funding ongoing advocacy and awareness campaigns to shift Australian behaviour towards Asian/Asian Australian communities.
• Working closely with state and federal politicians to encourage the the government to condemn racism, strengthen anti-racism laws and protections, and roll out compulsory anti-racism education.
• The organisation of events, workshops, mentoring programs.
• The organisation of national vigils.
• Support for Indian-Australians attempting to return home after recent travel bans.
How can you help?
By pledging your support, donating, sharing and educating, everyone can help end the pandemic of racism. Take action today:
