Help Preserve Perth’s Urban History and Lost Myths

Over the past four years, Streetkid Industries has been working tirelessly to document as much of Perth’s history before it’s too late.
Much of this began with demolition sites, which are always quick to make history disappear. Houses, apartments, shops, businesses… they’re not our history but someone's and all deserve to be documented.
How many times have you wished to see a building one more time?
An insignificant place at the time, where you bought your childhood lollies, a community pool you learnt to swim at, visiting nan at her old house or in a nursing home… now gone forever?
Whilst thousands of photographs exist from the past, many places just show the outside of places but what about the details that made it so special?
From vintage designs and motifs in carpets to blinds, wall decor to cupboard lining… once taken for granted but potentially never to be seen again.
Lost history and unproven myths that seemingly started from somewhere, only to change with time like Chinese whispers. Most will never be uncovered or recorded in any degree of factual proof but we’re tying to change that, many places at a time.
From Rottnest where we’ve documented 40% of the island’s WW2 history, uncovering remains and lost secrets.
To Point Peron and our 286 archaeological finds (which have ALL been handed to the local museum, our policy for all items found) as well as documenting what once was.
South Fremantle Power Station, East Perth Power Station, Princess Margaret Hospital, Swan District Hospital, Riverbank Prison, Stirling Towers and some 750 other locations... have all been tirelessly documented.
Whilst we've increasingly been able to gain permission to access places legally, it's always a struggle. If you know of any location, particularly in the Perth metropolitan suburbs, that we could have permission to photograph, a council or company we could team up with, please let us know.
To keep up with it all and to ensure we don’t miss any key details or artefacts, we’ve decided to give GoFundMe a try.
If we can reach our goal of $12,000, we’ll be able to document a huge amount more history, cover our costs to keep going, particularly costs associated with the Perth History Database website, as well as obtain equipment that can give us better quality results especially when it comes to photographing a site.
