Support For Sara Through Stage 3 Cancer

Hello, my name is Abby Kerns (maiden name, Habecker) and I am Sara Mitchell's sister. I know that life gets busy and we really do appreciate you taking the time to read our stories.

A message from Sara’s wife, Lauren. ❤️

“Hey friends. I’m writing this in absolute shock as we found out that Sara has stage 3 cervical cancer. She started her journey thinking she needed to have a large benign cyst removed, but that was just the start of the nightmare we’ve gone through since June 2023. The cyst removal took place in September and about 3 weeks later, she went into kidney failure. She was hospitalized and had stents placed in her ureter tubes that were only meant to be in for around 3 months. In January, the stents were replaced as the healing that we had hoped for was not happening. We were sent home and told to see a specialist as more surgeries were likely needed. From June until now, Sara has experienced excruciating pain and constant infection. Last week, her leg started to swell and caused us to return to the ER for more testing. A CT scan was done and we were told there was a mass present, but that they weren’t sure what it was. After an examination, the worst possible news we could ever imagine was given. Sara has stage 3 cervical cancer that has spread beyond her cervix. We are still unsure of the full extent but she will have to start daily aggressive chemotherapy, radiation and immunotherapy in the coming weeks. Sara has been unable to work and soon it will be hard for me to fully focus on my job. We are reaching out to our community for help as we navigate this extremely difficult time. Sara is the strongest, most resilient person I know and I have no doubt in my mind that she will get through this. Please keep Sara in your hearts and thoughts.” ❤️

"Valentine's Day, 2024 came around a little differently for our family this year, when we were blindsided by Sara's cervical cancer diagnosis (Stage 3). Sara has been through so much this past year already with other medical complications that this was almost unbelievable. But Sara is strong. Sara is positive and determined. Sara is brave and she has a great support system by her side. Let's join together to show her the love and support she needs from her friends, family and community to help pull her through this extremely tough time." ❤️
