Summer Abroad Medical Program

Donation protected
Hello,
My name is Madison Ambroise and I am extremely excited about the opportunity to attend the Oxbridge Academic Program for medicine at St. Andrew's University in Scotland this summer! You see, I am a sophomore at Hunter College High School in New York City and by the end of the summer I want to be able to answer the question many people keep asking me, "What do you want to be when you grow up?"

For a while I thought I would become a teacher. Then in 9th grade, our required science class was Biology. Science has always been an interest of mine, and 9th grade Biology quickly became my favorite and best class. I was fascinated by everything my teacher taught us. Learning about the Cell Theory, evolution, and organic molecules was fun, but what really engaged me was the human body. I loved learning about genetics, general anatomy, organ systems, and diseases, especially when we explored structures on a molecular level. After school, I would run home to google topics from class to satisfy my desire for more in depth knowledge.

I am also compassionate and concerned about the welfare of others. I volunteer for a number of organizations, such as Concerts in Motion, a nonprofit that organizes in-home concerts for the elderly. Last summer, I was the youngest counselor on staff at the World of Money financial institute, teaching financial literacy to 7-9 year olds. My friends jokingly refer me to as the “mom” and “grandma,” but I pride myself on being a friend they can count on whenever they need help or advice. All of these are important qualities of doctors and why I plan to pursue a career in pediatrics or pediatric surgery.

This summer, the Oxbridge program will allow me to more deeply explore my passion in ways unavailable to me at my school.  I've been accepted into the Medical Science major, designed to give me a peek into the “world of medicine” and expose me to what a future career could look like. I will get to learn from talented and inspiring teachers and guest speakers which will give me a firm understanding of what it will take to become a doctor.

The 4-week program is $7895 which covers all tuition and instruction, accommodation, breakfast and dinner daily, transportation to and from the airport, all books and materials, guest presentations, workshops, and field trips. Even though I received a small merit scholarship for my academic acheivements and my parents will pitch in, I feel the responsiblity to earn/raise as much as possible to lessen the burden on my family.

I am extremely appreciative of every and any donation that is given, whether it is $5, $10, $25, $50, $100, $500 or $1,000. EVERY DONATION HELPS! Also, you should check with your tax specialist because your gift might be tax deductible!

Thank you so much for you consideration and support of my journey to recognizing my future!
