Join Sun Shines for NOLA and support the community of New Orleans and the greater metro area affected by Hurricane Ida by donating to Second Harvest.

Hurricane Ida made landfall as a powerful Category 4 hurricane at Port Fourchon, Louisiana on August 29. The storm, one of the strongest to ever hit the state, caused catastrophic damage throughout Southeast Louisiana. Parts of these communities have experienced significant damage to homes and structures, as well as flooding. One million residents have been without power, and some areas may not have power restored for several more weeks.  Parishes are under boil water advisories due to damage to water lines. 

SH has mounted an aggressive recovery effort since the storm passed, ensuring food, water, and supplies reach the residents of Southeast Louisiana.  As of Thursday, September 9, SH has distributed 2.1 million pounds of food, water, and supplies.  SH is producing thousands of hot, cold, and shelf-stable prepared meals daily in our Community Kitchen and delivering them to seniors, disaster distribution sites, and first responders. 

Through this initiative, we can demonstrate how the solar industry comes together in times of need.  As solar professionals, we dedicate our careers to reducing the devastating effects of climate change with clean economy solutions.  Many thanks to our initial supporters:  Shoals,  Enphase Energy, BayWa r.e, Nextracker, Kiterocket, PVEL, Trina, Sungrow, LONGi,  Suncast, Tigercomm, and numerous other individuals and solar companies for supporting Sun Shines for NOLA.  Watch this video to learn about this fundraiser and why we chose to support Second Harvest at this time. 

On Friday, September 3rd, the SETS (Solar Energy Trade Shows) team made an official public announcement that SPI, ESI, and North America Smart Energy Week 2021 had been canceled. The economic boost from 20,000 attendees in New Orleans during Sept 20-23 would have been substantial. As an industry, we can do right by the city of New Orleans by supporting one of the city's most productive and accountable non-profits, Second Harvest, to directly support those most affected by Hurricane Ida.

As a collective of industry leaders, we're raising money to benefit Second Harvest Food Bank of Greater New Orleans and Acadiana, and any donation will help make an impact. Thanks in advance for your contribution to Sun Shines for NOLA.

More information about Second Harvest Food Bank of Greater New Orleans and Acadiana: Second Harvest Food Bank is leading the fight against hunger in South Louisiana by providing food access, advocacy, education, and disaster response. Below shows the catastrophic damage to NOLA and south Louisiana from hurricane Ida. 




Second Harvest provides food to 582 partners and programs across 23 parishes. Together, Second Harvest makes up the largest anti-hunger network in the state. Through its food distribution programs, community kitchen meal service, nutrition education, and public benefits assistance, Second Harvest directly assists those most affected by natural disasters and creates pathways out of poverty.
